Comment (Deposit): ONLY PRODUCTIVE PLACERS OF NORTON BAY REGION. STREAM GRADIENT UNDER 50 FT. PER MILE. CREEK THOUGH TO BE MINED OUT. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT

Comment (Deposit): THIS SITE NAME WAS CREATED BY THE REPORTER OR OTHER USGS EMPLOYEE BASED ON PROXIMITY TO SOME MAJOR GEOGRAPHIC FEATURE.

Comment (Production): GOLD AND A FEW POUNDS OF SCHEELITE CONCENTRATE PRODUCED.

Comment (Development): GOLD DISCOVERED IN 1899; MINING OF CREEK AND BENCH PLACER CONTINUED UNTIL 1918 OR LATER. DREDGE REPORTED AS ON BONANZA CR. AND UNGALIK R., 1938-40, WAS PROBABLY MINING GRAVELS OF UNGALIK R. NEAR MOUNT OF BONANZA CREEK.

Comment (Deposit): GOLD IN STREAM AND BENCH PLACERS. PAY STREAK 400 FT. WIDE ON LOWER CLAIM. PAY STREAK NARROWS UPSTREAM AND AT THE NORTHERN LINE OF CLAIM NO. 1 ABOVE DISCOVERY THE WIDTH IS ONLY ABOUT 75 FT. IN PLACES 3 FT. OF ANGULAR BLACKY SLATE HAD TO BE PICKED UP TO RECOVER THE PAY VALUES, BUT OVER MUCH OF THE BENCH GROUND IT WAS NECESSARY TO TAKE UP ONLY FROM 12 TO 18 INCHES.
