Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Exploration): Status = Inactive

Comment (Workings): Workings / Exploration = In 1947 the U. S. Geological Survey sampled the placer to evaluate its radioactive mineral potential (Gault and others, 1953).

Comment (Reference): Primary Reference = Gault and others, 1953

Comment (Deposit): Other Comments = Stream gradient approximately 100 feet per mile.

Comment (Geology): Geologic Description = Rock Creek probably was prospected for placer gold in the early 1900s. Uranothorianite was identified in placer concentrates collected in 1947 by the U.S. Geological Survey (Gault and others, 1953).

Comment (Deposit): Model Name = Radioactive minerals in stream sediments.

Comment (Commodity): Ore Material = uranothorianite

Comment (Geology): Age = Quaternary.
