The Avan Hills is a pge and chromium mine located in Alaska.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.
Mine Info
Satelite View
MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments
Comment (Workings): Workings / Exploration = Platinum and palladium were detected in chromite-bearing dunite (0.014 troy oz/st Pt) and in chromite concentrates (0.016 troy oz/st Pd). Iridium was detected in a pan concentrate sample (0.0036 troy oz/st).
Comment (Reserve-Resource): Reserves = Estimated Cr2O3 content measured in 26 deposits ranges from 465,000 to 1,734,000 short tons. The area contains at least 50 other minor or unmeasured chromite lode occurrences, and also has potential for large, low-grade chromite and PGE placer deposits.
Comment (Reference): Primary Reference = Foley and others (1989)
Comment (Geology): Geologic Description = Bedrock consists of variably serpentinized rocks of a Jurassic? mafic/ultramafic complex that includes dunite, wehrlite, peridotite, clinopyroxenite, and gabbro.
Comment (Deposit): Model Name = Podiform chromite
Comment (Exploration): Status = Inactive
Comment (Geology): Age = Jurassic
