Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Location): ABOUT 15 MILES SOUTHEAST OF GERLACH ON WEST SIDE OF LUXOR PEAK IN SELENITE RANGE. UTM COORDINATES FROM NBMG BULL. 105. ; INFO FROM LAND.ST :(1972)

Comment (Production): ORE WAS PROBABLY HAND SORTED.

Comment (Development): PROPERTY WAS ACQUIRED BY J. J. THRASHER DURING 1951, BUT THE ONLY RECORDED PRODUCTION WAS BY C. B. JEAKINS IN 1968. STORMY DAY CLAIMS STRUNG OUT OVER 5 MILES ALONG THE MOUNTAIN FRONT IN 1984. ASSESSMENT NOTICE FOR 1983 POSTED.

Comment (Deposit): SCHEELITE OCCURS IN A NARROW TACTITE ZONE ALONG THE CONTACT BETWEEN CALCAREOUS METASEDIMENTS AND GRANITE. THE CONTACT GENERALLY PARALLELS THE BEDDING WITH SOME TONGUES OF GRANDIORITE CUTTING ACROSS THE BEDS. NARROW BANDS OF TACTITE HAVE BEEN FORMED IN PLACES ALONG THE CONTACT. SCHEELITE MINERALIZATION OCCURS ERRATICALLY I N MOST OF THE TACTITE. K-SPAR VEINING ON A MINOR SCALE NOTED.

Comment (Workings): 2 CROSSCUT ADITS, ONE OF WHICH IS 216 FEET IN LENGTH AND IS DRIVEN SOUTHEASTERLY NEAR THE NORTH END OF THE PROPERTY; SEVERAL OPEN CUTS AND PITS ALONG THE LIMESTONE-GRANITE CONTACT.

Comment (Geology): MINERALIZATION LOCATED ALONG A BELT OF CALCAREOUS AND ARGILLACEOUS METASEDIMENTS INTRUDED BY GRANITE.

Comment (Deposit): JEAKINS MINE IS GIVEN PREFERENCE BY TINGLEY AND STAGER (NBMG BULL. 105). SITE OVERLAPS EMPIRE & GERLACH DISTRICTS. THIS RECORD HAS BEEN MERGED WITH M234142 AND M242623, WHICH HAVE BEEN DELETED.
