Lakeview Mine

The Lakeview Mine is a tungsten mine located in Pershing county, Nevada at an elevation of 6,401 feet.

About the MRDS Data:

All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Land Status

Land ownership: BLM Administrative Area
Note: the land ownership field only identifies whether the area the mine is in is generally on public lands like Forest Service or BLM land, or if it is in an area that is generally private property. It does not definitively identify property status, nor does it indicate claim status or whether an area is open to prospecting. Always respect private property.

Comments

Comment (Deposit): VEINS ARE COMMONLY ONLY A FEW INCHES THICK AND CONSIST MAINLY OF QUARTZ WITH LESSER AMOUNTS OF FLUORITE, MUSCOVITE, TOURMALINE, COLORLESS BERYL AND PYRITE. THE SCHEELITE-BERYL DEPOSIT IS IN LIMESTONE NEAR THE CONTACT WITH RHYOLITE. THE BERYL CRYSTALS ARE A FRACTION OF AN INCH TO 2 INCHES LONG. MINERALIZATION IS VERY SIMILAR TO THAT OF OREANA MINE (BONHAM). JOHNSON AND BENSON REPORT, " SCHEELITE-BEARING TACTITE IN WEST FACE OF PIT APPEARS AS AN INVERTED TRIANGLE, WHICH ON SURFACE WAS 10 FEET WIDE."

Comment (Workings): PIT, SEVERAL SHORT ADITS, AND A FEW PARTIALLY CAVED IN OPEN CUTS AND TRENCHES. THE VEIN'S UNDERGROUND EXTENSION HAS BEEN SOUGHT IN 450 FEET OF CROSSCUTS

Comment (Geology): OVERLAIN BY CALCAREOUS SHALE, ALTERED LIMESTONE IS A FINE-GRAINED, AGGREGATE OF SERICITE, QUARTZ, FLUORITE, CHLORITE, AND SCHEELITE. ALTERATION APPEARS TO FOLLOW JOINTS IN THE LIMESTONE AND ALONG THE NARROW PEGMATITE STRINGERS. SCHEELITE AND BERYL OCCURS IN SMALL PEGMATITIC POCKETS AND STRINGERS IN VEINS A FEW INCHES THICK THAT ALSO CONTAIN FLUORITE AND COLORLESS BERYL.

Comment (Location): NORTHEAST SIDE OF HUMBOLDT CANYON NEAR NORTH END OF HUMBOLDT RANGE. UTM IS FROM SAMPLE SITE. ACCESS IS VIA REASONABLY GOOD (1984) JEEP ROAD FROM HUMBOLDT CANYON.; PREVIOUS QUAD DESIGNATION = IMLAY 1:62500

Comment (Production): THE ORE MINED WAS 5 TO 1.5 % WO3 AND 0.1 TO 0.2 % BEO.

Comment (Deposit): THIS RECORD HAS BEEN MERGED WITH M060320, WHICH HAS BEEN DELETED.
