Nevada Scheelite Mine

The Nevada Scheelite Mine is a tungsten mine located in Mineral county, Nevada at an elevation of 5,000 feet.

About the MRDS Data:

All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Deposit): THE ORE-BEARING TACTITE ZONES HAVE BEEN WELL-OXIDIZED TO THE 200 FOOT LEVEL, AND TO LOWER LEVELS IN AREAS CRUSHED BY POST-MINERAL FAULTS. LIMONITE IS PRINCIPAL OXIDE MINERAL. LOCALLY TACTITE CONTAINS SEVERAL PERCENT OF W03 IN FORM OF FERRITUNGSTITE (?). SCHEELITE IS IN FORM OF SMALL CRYSTALS FROM SIZE OF PINHEAD UP TO 1/2 INCH IN DIAMETER. IN PLACES THE TACTITTE IS STAINED WITH COPPER. TACTITE ZONE IS 2 TO 50 FT WIDE.

Comment (Workings): SHAFT WITH 6 LEVELS EXTENDING IN A NW-SE DIRECTION

Comment (Location): IN SOUTHERN PART OF SAND SPRINGS RANGE; PREVIOUS QUAD DESIGNATION = BIG KASOCK MOUNTAIN (1980) 1:24000

Comment (Production): FROM 1937-57 MINE PRODUCE AT RATE OF 130 TONS/DAY WITH BETTER THAN 1% W03

Comment (Development): CONSISTS OF 16 UNPATENTED LODE CLAIMS. MINE IN OPERATION FROM 1937 TO 1957, IN 1936 CLAIMS UNDER BOND & LEASE TO THE MILLS ALLOYS, LTD.

Comment (Geology): ROCKS IN AREA ARE CHIEFLY ANDESITES, BASALTS, AND TUFFS INTERBEDDED WITH A NEARLY VERTICAL STRATUM OF LIMESTONE THAT STRIKES NE AND HAS A MAXIMUM THICKNESS OF 500 FEET THESE FORMATIONS HAVE BEEN INTRUDED BY GRANITIC STOCK, DIKES AND SILLS. IN THE VICINITY OF THE MINE SHAFT A PRE-GRANITE FAULT, STRIKING NW AND DIPPING 30-40DEGREES NE HAS BROKEN THE LIMESTONE DIPLACING THE NORTHEAST PORTION 350 FEET NORTHWEST: THIS FAULT LOCALLY CONTROLLED THE EMPLACEMENT OF THE GRANITE. POST-GRANITE FAULTS ARE WELL EXPOSED IN THE UNDERGROUND WORKINGS WHERE THEY ARE MAINLY RESTRICTED TO THE LIMESTONE-GRANITE CONTACT. ADJACENT TO THE GRANITE CONTACTS, LIMESTONE HAS BEEN ALTERED TO TACTITE IN ZONES VARYING FROM 15 TO 50 FEET WIDE. IN SOME PLACES, HORNFELS UP TO 40 FEET THICKNESS SEPARATE THE LIMESTONE FROM GRANITE PREVENTING THE ALTERATION OF THE LIMESTONE TO TACTITE. SCHEELITE MINERALIZATION OCCURS WITH GARNET, EPIDOTE, DROPSIDE, QUARTZ, CALCITE, LIMONITE AND CU-CARBONATES. PYRITE IS LOCALLY ABUNDANT,

Comment (Geology): AND IN SOME PLACES SMALL AMOUNTS OF CHALCOPYRITE OCCUR.
