Mine Info
Satelite View
MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Analytical Data

Materials
Ore: Psilomelane
Gangue: Pyrolusite
Comments
Comment (Production): NO PRODUCTION. IT IS DOUBTFUL IF MORE THAN 5 TONS OF ORE AVERAGING 30-35 PERCENT MANGANESE CAN BE FOUND ON THE PROPERTY. THE PROSPECT IS 1 MILE FROM ALTAMONT, ON THE WESTERN PACIFIC RR. THE SURFACE OF THE ORE CONSISTS OF TINY RADIATING NEEDLES OF WELL CRYSTALLIZED PYROLUSITE. HALF A MILE E OF THE MAIN OCCURENCE OF THE PEBBLES IS A BED OF LIMESTONE AND SHALY LIMESTONE CONGLOMERATE AMONG THE PEBBLES OF WHICH ARE A FEW PEBBLES OF WHITE CHERT AND MANGANESE OXIDE AND MAY BE THE SOURCE OF THE PEBBLES FARTHER WEST. MANNER OF OCCURRENCE INDICATES THE PROSPECT HAS LITTLE ECONOMIC VALUE.
Comment (Geology): GEOL.DESC: IRREGULAR PEBBLES OF HARD MANGANESE OXIDE OCCUR IN SOIL IN A ROUGHLY LINEAR BELT, WHICH IS 1/2 MILE LONG, 100 FT. WIDE, AND DIPS GENTLY E. PEBBLES ARE IRREGULAR IN SHAPE, AVE. 1 1/2 IN. DIAMETER, AND CONSIST OF INTERLACING VEINS OF PSILOMELANE IN A SOFT RUSTY-COLORED LIMY MATRIX.
