Comment (Production): FIRST WORKED IN 1880 AND IN 1888 A MILL WAS IN OPERATION. ACTIVE DURING 1890'S AND MILL ENLARGED. BT. 1898 AND 1901 IT WAS OPERATED BY MONTAUK CONS. MNG. CO. AND TOTAL OUTPUT OF THE MINE UP TO 1902 WAS VALUED AT ABOUT $1,000,000. IDLE UNTIL 1924 WHEN A SMALL AMT. OF PROSPECTING WAS DONE AND AGAIN 1933-38 AND AGAIN IN 1941 WHEN PROPERTY WAS PROSPECTED AND SOME GOLD PRODUCED. IDLE SINCE THAT TIME.
Comment (Workings): A 1130--FT. INCLINED SHAFT WITH LEVELS EVERY 100 FT.; A 500-FT. CROSSCUT ADIT JOINS SHAFT ON 300 FT. LEVEL; A 200-FT. SHAFT AND A 190 FT. SHAFT; DRIFTING , STOPES.
Comment (Deposit): NEARLY ALL THE ORE THAT WAS MINED WAS FROM THE MAIN OR ZANTGRAF VEIN, WHICH RANGES FROM 2-6 FT. IN WIDTH. THE ORE CONTAINED FREE GOLD WITH ASSOCIATED AURIFEROUS PYRITE AND GALENA. VALUES RANGED FROM $2 TO AS MUCH AS $100 PER TON BUT AVE. WAS BT. $7 AND $8 PER TON.
