Comment (Geology): GEOL.DESC: MANGANESE STAINED CHERTS EXPOSED FOR A FEW HUNDRED FT., TRENDING N. W. ABOVE ORE BED IS SLATE 30 FT. THICK, WHICH BECOMES SOFTER, CLOSER TO ORE BED. ABOVE SLATE IS A DENSE PORPHYRITIC GREENSTONE. BELOW ORE IS A 30 FT. BED OF EVENLY BANDED, CLIFF FORMING CHERT GENERALLY IN LAYER 1 TO 1.5 INCHES THICK. STRIKE IS N. 45 W. AND DIP IS 45 N. E. MANGANESE OXIDE OCCURS AS IRREGULAR OUTER RIMS AND FRACTURE FILLINGS IN DENSE AND BRECCIATED CHERT. IRREGULAR BUNCHES OF WHITE POROUS SILICA ARE COMMON. FRESH CHERT IS DARK GREEN OR BROWN, WITH PYRITE IN PLACES. ORE BED IS LESS THAN 6 FT. THICK
