Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Commodity): FIELD TESTS INDICATE PRESENCE OF NICKEL, NO SAMPLES TAKEN.

Comment (Deposit): Discovery Year: MID 1950'S, NICKEL-BEARING LATERITE DISCOVERED

Comment (Deposit): BOTH CHROMITE AND COPPER HAVE BEEN PRODUCED FROM NUMEROUS MINE WORKINGS IN SERPENTINIZED PERIDOTITE

Comment (Geology): GEOL.DESC: AREA UNDERLAIN BY PERIDOTITE, LOCALLY ALTERED TO SERPENTINITE. CHROMITE OCCURS PRINCIPALLY IN DUNITE AND THE COPPER MINERALIZATION IN SERPENTINITE. LATERITE MANTLE IS SAID TO BE ROCKY, AND PROBABLY AVERAGES LESS THAN 5 FT. IN DEPTH, ALTHOUGH SOME GREATER LOCAL DEPTH IS INDICATED. ABOUT 200 ACRES OF NICKEL-BEARING LATERITIC SOIL IS PRESENT.
