Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Development): PROBABLY WORKED IN 1930'S. NO ACTIVITY AT TIME OF EXAMINATION IN 1983-ONLY ASSESSMENT WORK KEPT UP TO DATE. OWNED BY CONSOLIDATED NEVADA-UTAH CORP ABOUT 1913-1918; WORKED BY INDEPENDENCE MINING CO IN 1890'S.

Comment (Production): PRODUCTION UNKNOWN BUT SMALL. AVERAGE ASSAY WAS 20% MN AND 20% FE

Comment (Geology): OXIDIZED BEDDED REPLACEMENT MN ORE

Comment (Deposit): ORE IS FOUND IN A 14-FT THICK LIMESTONE BED IN THE PIOCHE SHALE. ORE OCCURS AS A BEDDED REPLACEMENT DEPOSIT OF IRON-MANGANESE IN TABULAR BODIES. ORE IS VERY FINE-GRAINED, OXIDIZED WAD WITH CIRCULAR PYROLUSITE CRYSTALS COATING SURFACES. ABUNDANT FE-MN OXIDES COAT EXPOSED SURFACES. THE OREBODY AND HOST ROCKS ARE HIGHLY FRACTURED AND MINUTE CALCITE VEINLETS CUT THE ORE, WHICH IS SLIGHTLY MAGNETIC. EXPOSED IN THE TRENCH ARE PARALLEL SHEARS TRENDING N55E CUTTING A DARK GREY TO REDDISH BROWN LIMESTONE UNIT WHICH CARRIES UNOXIDIZED, FINELY DISSEMINATED MAGNETITE CRYSTALS WITH CALCITE/SIDERITE FILLING ABUNDANT FRACTURES. SAMPLE 796 WAS TAKEN FROM THE MAIN DUMP. NORTH ACROSS THE DRAINAGE, WORKINGS EXPLORE A DIABASE (?) BODY INTRUDING THE BEDDED CARBONATES. OUTCROPPING AT THE ENTRANCE TO AN ADIT IS COARSE-GRAINED, BIOTITE-RICH MAFIC INTRUSIVE CONTAINING GRAINS OF COPPER (MALACHITE) AND APPEARING HYDROTHERMALLY ALTERED. VEINLETS RESEMBLING ASBESTOS CUT THE INTRUSIVE. CHLORITIZED LIMESTONE

Comment (Deposit): BRECCIA OUTCROPPING NEAR INTRUSIVE IS CEMENTED BY SPARRY CALCITE/SIDERITE AND HEAVILY FE-MN-STAINED. SAMPLE WAS TAKEN OF INTRUSIVE.

Comment (Workings): 2 SHAFTS INCLINED ALONG BEDDING PLANES, EXPLORATORY PITS IN THE AREA, SEVERAL BUILDINGS, ROAD MAINTAINED (1983). MAIN SHAFT INCLINED ALONG BEDDING HAS REMAINS OF A BUILDING. A SECOND SHAFT FOLLOWS A N15W SCHISTOSITY OF THE SHALE WHICH PARALLELS BEDDING. TO THE SW ARE SMALLER EXPLORATORY PROSPECT PITS. THE SECOND SHAFT HAS BEEN TRENCHED UP TO 200 FT DOWNSLOPE FOLLOWING BEDDING PLANE, PORTIONS OF WHICH ARE CAVED.
