Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Deposit): Discovery Year: 1937 (MAIN ORE SHOOT)

Comment (Geology): ORE IS IN A MINERALIZED THRUST BRECCIA, OF UP TO 1.5 FEET OF ARGENTIFEROUS PB CARBONATE IN A QUARTZ GANGUE

Comment (Deposit): ORE ON DUMP CONSISTS OF EUHEDRAL TO SUBHEDRAL PYRITE CRYSTALS AND GRAINS DISSEMINATED IN MASSIVE TO SACCHROIDAL QUARTZ VEIN MATERIAL ALONG WITH MINOR CHALCOPYRITE AND COPPER OXIDES STAINING SHEARED MATERIAL. QUARTZITE ON DUMPS ALSO CARRIES VERY FINE-GRAINED DISSEMINATED SULFIDES, AS DOES A GREEN PHYLLITIC SHALE UNIT FOUND ON DUMP. WELL-FORMED CRYSTALS OF JAROSITE COAT FRACTURE SURFACES AND SERICITE IS ABUNDANT. MINOR GOSSAN WAS NOTED. QUARTZITE BRECCIA IS CEMENTED WITH OPALINE SILICA AND IS STAINED WITH FE AND MN OXIDES. LATE STAGE SILICA COATS EXPOSED SURFACES. MAPS SHOW A SERIES OF PARALLEL N10-30W FAULTS HERE. THIS IS INDIRECTLY CONFIRMED BY FAULTING UPSLOPE FROM THE WORKINGS. LOCALLY THE SEDIMENTS HAVE BEEN PARTIALLY SILICIFIED.

Comment (Workings): COVERED HEADFRAME WITH HOUSING, PROBABLY 1000 FT OR MORE OF WORKINGS, PERIPHERAL PROSPECT PITS AND CUTS. THE WIDE AWAKE SHAFT (INCLINED 81NW) FROM WHICH 5 LEVELS HAVE BEEN RUN,THE BOTTOM 500 LEVEL (AT 402 FT DEEP), AND BELOW THIS LEVEL A 196-FT WINZE WAS SUNK AT A POINT ABOUT UNDER THE DUPONT SHAFT. FROM THE BOTTOM OF THIS WINZE A DRIFT WAS BEING RUN IN THE LATE 1920'S, N TO CUT THE YUBA DIKE.

Comment (Production): THE 2000 TONS OF AG PB ORE SHIPPED IN 1919 WAS VALUED AT $120,000. THE 15,000 TONS SHIPPED IN 1937-1944 HAD A NET VALUE OF $415,500. PRODUCTION FIGURES INCLUDE THE NEARBY VOLCANO MINE WHICH IS DESCRIBED IN A SEPARATE RECORD. PRODUCTION FIGURES INCLUDE THE NEARBY VOLCANO MINE WHICH IS DESCRIBED IN A SEPARATE RECORD.

Comment (Development): NO ACTIVITY AT TIME OF EXAMINATION IN 1983. MAIN OUTPUT WAS UNDER STINDT AND DONAHUE LEASE. LISTED AS AN ACTIVE OPEN PIT PB-AG MINE IN 1981, EMPLOYING 2 PERSONS.
