The Snowdrift Property is a mercury mine located in Humboldt county, Nevada at an elevation of 5,000 feet.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments
Comment (Geology): SMALL AMOUNTS OF CINNABAR OCCUR AS CRYSTALLINE BUNCHES IN CALCITE VEINLETS ; GEOL.DESC: ATTITUDE OF SEDIMENTARY ROCKS: NE/45W
Comment (Commodity): OCCURS AS CRYSTALLINE BUNCHES IN CALCITE VEINLETS
Comment (Reserve-Resource): PROBABLY NO RESERVES
Comment (Location): WEST SIDE OF HOT SPRINGS PEAK; EAST SIDE, TOO.
Comment (Development): SNOWDRIFT PROPERTY WAS ORIGINALLY DEVELOPED ON THE NE SLOPE OF HOT SPRINGS PEAK WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF A 73-FT AD-IT. IN 1940, N. H. GETCHELL LEASED THE PROPERTY AND BUILT A RO-AD TO IT. MORE RECENT TRENCHING ALONG THE ACCESS ROAD HAS EXPO-SED ADDITIONAL ORE. 2 ADITS ARE DEVELOPED ON THE WEST SIDE OF -HOT SPRINGS PEAK JUST BELOW THE SUMMIT.
Comment (Deposit): LARGE CINNABAR CRYSTALS OCCUR IN QUARTZ VEINS WHICH FORM A STOCKWORK IN SANDY LIMESTONE WHICH HAS BEEN SILICIFIED -AND LOCALLY BRECCIATED. SCHUETTEITE OCCURS AS COATINGS ON CINN-ABAR, AND CALCITE RARELY OCCURS IN THE CENTRAL PART OF THE VEI-N.
Comment (Workings): 2 ADITS, ONE 30 FT LONG AND ONE 120 FT LONG ARE DEVELOPED ON THE WEST SIDE OF HOT SPRINGS PEAK JUST BELOW THE SUMM-IT; TRENCHING ALONG ACCESS ROAD; ADIT ON EAST SIDE OF HOT SPRI-NGS PEAK.
Comment (Deposit): SOME EXCEPTIONALLY WELL-FORMED CINNABAR CRYSTALS WERE HAND-SORTED AND SOLD TO MINERAL COLLECTORS. DISCOVERED IN FEB., 1940, AND LEASED TO N.H. GETCHELL WHO BUILT A STEEP ROAD TO THE MAIN ADIT, WHICH EXTENDS 73 FT. INTO THE HILL. ADITS OCCUR BOTH ON EAST AND WEST SIDES OF HOT SPRINGS PEAK.. ROAD NOT PASSABLE IN 1985 ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT
