Comments

Comment (Identification): DATA MERGED from Carr Fork Copper Deposit Deposit ID 10300633

Comment (Identification): The Carr Fork Mine and related North Ore Shoot Extension: are two seperate records, SEE "North Ore Shoot Extension" DEPOSIT ID 10276611ALSO "Bingham Open Pit Mine" DEPOSIT ID 10069296 and "Bingham Canyon (Plant)" DEPOSIT ID 10129805

Comment (Geology): LIMESTONE GRADES FROM DARK GRAY TO BLACK THROUGH BANDED, GRAY, BLACK, AND WHITE TOWARD MORE INTENSELY SILICATED ZONES AT IGNEOUS CONTACTS. ORE MINERALS ARE INTIMATELY ASSOCIATED WITH QUARTZ VEINS IN ALTERED WALL ROCKS.

Comment (Production): PRODUCTION THROUGH 1947 CONSISTED OF 11.972 MILLION TONS OF PB, ZN, AG, CU ORE AVERAGING 8% PB, 5% ZN, 4 OZ/TON AG, 2-2.5% CU. THESE PRODUCTION FIGURES ARE FROM OLD MINES

Comment (Development): VCR (VERTICAL CRATER RETREAT) MINING IS USED TO REDUCE BLAST DAMAGE THROUGHOUT THE MINE AND, AT THE SAME TIME, PRODUCE BETTER FRAGMENTATION.

Comment (Deposit): DEPOSIT LIES ON WEST FLANK OF OQUIRRH MOUNTAINS ALONG OCCIDENTAL FAULT. ORE IS A SKARN FORMED IN TWO LIMESTONE UNITS ENCLOSED BY QUARTZITES. EVIDENCE SUGGESTS TWO GOLD MINERALIZING EPISODES. SOME GEOLOGISTS CLASSIFY THIS DEPOSIT AS A CU SKARN OR A GOLD-BEARING SKARN.

Comment (Commodity): HIGH-GRADE GOLD ZONE CHARACTERIZED BY ANOMALOUS AU, AS, SB, HG, SI, S, AND TL AND DEPLETED PD, CA, AND SE.

Comment (General): The Carr Fork mine was developed on section of the Carr Fork/North Ore Shoot skarn deposits which are part of the Bingham Canyon porphyry system in the Central Oquirrh Mountains, near Sat Lake City, northern Utah, USA. They occur in the immediate contact zone of the Bingham Stock, adjacent to the Bingham Canyon open pit.

Comment (Deposit): RECORD W002689 HAS BEEN DELETED.

Comment (Location): 6,500 FT S35W OF MARKHAM PEAK IN PINE CANYON. LOCATION GIVEN IS FOR SHAFT SYMBOL SHOWN AT APPROPRIATE LOCATION ON TOPO MAP INFO FROM LAND.ST :(1977)

Comment (Reserve-Resource): ORE (2% CU, 90% RECOVERY)

Comment (Workings): 4 CIRCULAR, CONCRETE-LINED SHAFTS OPERATED FOR PRODUCTION, SERVICE, EXHAUST AIR, AND FRESH AIR. THE FRESH AIR SHAFT IS COLLARED NEAR END OF THE 1,830 M PINE CANYON TUNNEL. SERVICE SHAFT IS COMPLETE TO 1,172 M. MINE DEVELOPMENT IN PROGRESS ON MAIN LEVELS WAS AT ELEVATIONS OF 970 AND 1,200 M ABVOVE SEA LEVEL. THE 1,200 LEVEL IS 4.5 M HIGH BY 3.7 M WIDE AND PROVIDES GENERAL ACCESS TO MINE WORKINGS. MINE FLOODED BY 1987.

Comment (Deposit): EAST AND DIPS 50S. THE TRACE OF THE AXIAL PLANE IS LOCATED IMMEDIATELY NORTH OF APEX SHAFT AND JUST NORTH OF CARR FORK MINE EXHAUSE SHAFT. ROCKS ON SOUTH LIMB OF ANTICLINE DIP 20-30N AND STRIKE N60-80W; THOSE ON NORTH LIMB DIP 70-80N AND STRIKE N70-80W. ONLY A MINOR AMOUNT OF NORMAL FAULTING WITH APPARENT MAXIMUM OFFSET OF 20 FT IS OBSERVIED AT SURFACE. BEST CU VALUES ARE IN MARBLIZED-SILICATED ZONES AND PB-ZN-CU ORES ARE IN TRANSITION FROM WHITE TO BLACK LIMESTONE. THE MORE INTENSELY SILICATED LIMESTONE HAS BECOME A MASSIVE OR GRANULAR GARNETITE CONTAINING SPECULAR HEMATITE, MAGNETITE, CHALCOPYRITE, PYRITE. CONSEQUENTLY A TELESCOPING ORDER OF MINERALIZATION MAY FOLLOW A PATTERN SUCH AS CU-PB-ZN, PB-CU-ZN, PB-ZN-CU, ZN-PB-MN. AG AND AU ARE PRESENT IN VARIABLE AMOUNTS THROUGHOUT BUT INCREAST IN AN OUTER ENVIRONMENT. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV

Comment (Deposit): SEDIMENTARY SECTION EXPOSED IN CARR FORK AREA IS ABOUT 2,150 FT THICK; IT INCLUDES 2 THICK LIMESTONES IN LOWER PART OF SECTION SEPARATED AND OVERLAIN BY CALCAREOUS QUARTZITE AND THIN SILTY LIMESTONE. ALTERATION IN QUARTZITE AND SILTY LIMESTONE IS CHARACTERIZED BY REPLACEMENT OF CALCITE BY DIOPSIDE, WHICH WAS LATER ALTERED TO QUARTZ-ACTINOLITE-CALCITE RESULTING IN ALTERATION ENVELOPES ALONG FRACTURES NEAR BINGHAM STOCK AND ORBICULAR TEXTURES FARTHER AWAY. BIOTITE REPLACED ACTINOLITE IN ENVELOPES NEAR STOCK. THICKER LIMESTONES SHOW A PROGRESSIVE ALTERATION TO CALCITE-WOLLASTONITE, ANDRADITE-CALCITE-WOLLASTONITE, ANDRADITE-WOLLASTONITE, AND ANDRADITE-QUARTZ. CHALCOPYRITE DEPOSITION WAS GREATEST IN ANDRADITE-BEARING ROCKS. DIOPSIDE-SALITE MAY HAVE FORMNED WITH ANDRADITE BUT ITS DISTRIBUTION AND PARAGENESIS ARE OBSCURED BY ITS SUSCEPTIBILITY TO CLAY ALTERATION AND LEACHING. EXPOSED SEMINENTARY ROCKS LIE ON LIMBS OF AN OVERTURNED ANTICLINE, THE AXIAL PLANE OF WHICH STRIKES NEARLY
