Comments

Comment (Workings): MINE DISCOVERED IN 1954, LEASED TO HOMES TAKE MINING CO IN 1955, INSUFFICIENT ORE RESERVES FOUND TO JUSTIFY LARGE OPERATION. SINCE 1955, HAS BEEN OPERATED BY A NUMBER OF LESSEES. PUBLISHED PRODUCTION FIGURES ARE UNAVAILABLE, BUT AT LEAST ONE CARLOAD OF ORE WAS SHIPPED IN 1966. MINERALIZATION OCCURS IN AND ADJACENT TO A DIABASE DIKE WHICH INTRUDES WELDED ASH FLOW TUFF OF HARTFORD HILL RHYOLITE. FOOTWALL CONTACT HAS BEEN FAULTED. HIGHER GRADE ORE OCCURS IN SHOOTS WITHIN WELDED TUFF IN FOOTWALL OF FAULT.

Comment (Geology): QUARTZ CRYSTALS IN MINERALIZED WELDED TUFF ARE DARK, NEARLY BLACK, PROBABLY DUE TO RADIATION DAMAGE. (BONHOM, P 86)
