Comments

Comment (Deposit): THE DEPOSIT WAS EXTENSIVELY DRILLED AND TESTED; PLANS WERE MADE TO PLACE THE PROPERTY INTO PRODUCTION BUT IRON PRICES FELL AND NO ORE WAS PRODUCED. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT

Comment (Development): THE MAIN IRON DEPOSIT WAS CLAIMED, PARTIALLY EXPLORED AND PATENTED IN THE PERIOD 1903-1908; SOME EXPLORATION WAS DONE IN 1942 BY THE USBM.

Comment (Deposit): DEPOSIT IS A HEMATITE-MAGNETITE CONTACT METAMORPHIC DEPOSIT IN A SERIES OF METAMORPHOSED AND FOLDED SEDIMENTARY ROCKS NEAR CONTACTS WITH GRANITIC ROCKS. MAGNETITE AND MINOR PYRITE HAVE SELECTIVELY REPLACED THE LIMESTONE BEDS (THAT WERE MORE AMENABLE TO REPLACEMENT THAN ADJACENT SCHISTS AND HORNFELS) IN THE METASEDIMENTARY SEQUENCE. SURFACE OXIDATION REACHES TO A DEPTH OF MORE THAN 100 FEET; MUCH OF THE PYRITE IN THIS OXIDIZED ZONE HAS BEEN LEACHED.

Comment (Workings): A 100-FOOT SHAFT, NUMEROUS PITS, TRENCHES AND EXTENSIVE DRILLING.

Comment (Geology): THE PRINCIPAL DEPOSIT OUTCROPS AND FORMS A LOW HILL WITH ABOUT 100 FEET OF RELIEF; A LARGE PORTION OF THE DEPOSIT IS BURIED UNDER SHALLOW ALLUVIUM IN THE SURROUNDING VALLEY.
