The Wild Horse Mine is a silver and gold mine located in Washoe county, Nevada.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.
Mine Info
Satelite View
MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Note: the land ownership field only identifies whether the area the mine is in is generally on public lands like Forest Service or BLM land, or if it is in an area that is generally private property. It does not definitively identify property status, nor does it indicate claim status or whether an area is open to prospecting. Always respect private property.

Comments
Comment (Development): 5-STAMP MILL OPERATED IN 1912. LOCKED GATE 3 MILES WEST OF MINE (1985). NO NEW MINING ACTIVITY, BUT THERE IS A NEW HOUSE UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT -THE MINE SITE AND A FAIRLY NEW HOUSE TRAILER AT THE MINE SITE.
Comment (Deposit): ALL MINING ACTIVITY IS ALONG 2 MAJOR FAULT ZONES THAT STRIKE N60W,DIP 25SW, AND N60E, STEEPLY. THE SHEAR ZONES VAR-Y IN THICKNESS FROM A FEW FEET TO 20 FT. THE HOST ROCK IS A GR-ANODIORITE WHICH IS NEAR THE CONTACT OF METASEDIMENTS AND ANOT-HER DARKER DIORITE OR GABBRO. SAMPLE 2914 FROM MAIN ADIT AT BO-TTOM OF CANYON IS QUARTZ VEIN MATERIAL WITH SULFIDES. SAMPLE 2-915 WAS FROM ONE OF THE UPPER ADITS WHERE A 10-FT SHEAR ZONE I-S PARTIALLY FILLED BY A STRONGLY IRON-STAINED QUARTZ VEIN BEAR-ING N70E. THE MINERALIZED VEIN HAS VISIBLE ARSENOPYRITE, PYRIT-E AND OTHER SULFIDES. SAMPLE 2916 WAS CHIPPED FROM A SERIES OF- QUARTZ VEINS IN A DARK GREY INTRUSIVE-FINE-GRAINED SULFIDES P-RESENT IN VEIN. SAMPLE 2917 WAS CUT FROM A 3-4 FT IRON-STAINED- QUARTZ VEIN BEARING N-S, DIP 65W. SMALL WOODEN SLUICE OUTSIDE- ADIT PORTAL USING WATER FROM A SPRING-FED STREAM. FROM THIS P-OINT, THE ORE WAS MOVED ALONG A SMALL PATH THAT WAS FORMERLY T-RACKED, AND IT WAS EMPTIED INTO A SMALL MILLING DEVICE.
Comment (Workings): 6 ADITS , MOST OF WHICH ARE CAVED; SHALLOW SHAFTS AND PROSPECTS; SEVERAL OLD STRUCTURES; TOWARDS TOP OF THE HILL, -IT LOOKS LIKE A STOPE BROKE THROUGH TO THE SURFACE.
Comment (Geology): QUARTZ VEINS & STRINGERS UP TO 2 FT. THICK OCCUR IN THE FAULT ZONES
Comment (Location): CABIN MARKS ENTRANCE TO MAIN ADIT LEVEL. UTM IS FOR SAMPLE SITES 2914 AND 2917. UTM FOR SAMPLE SITE 2915 IS N4476200, E279850; UTM FOR SAMPLE SITE 2916 IS- N 4475850, E280000; UTM FOR SAMPLE SITE 2443 IS N4475950, E28-0000. ; INFO FROM LAND.ST :(1972)
Comment (Deposit): THE VEIN WAS LOCATED ABOUT 1902. A 5-STAMP MILL WAS IN OPERATION IN 1912 TREATING THE VEIN QUARTZ FOR ITS GOLD & SILVER CONTENT. THE WORKINGS EXPLORE TWO SETS OF MINERALIZED FAULTS, WHICH CUT A GRANODIORITE STOCK INTRUDING MESOZOIC METASEDIMENTARY ROCKS AND HORNBLENDE GABBRO. THE MINERALIZED FAULT ZONES CONSISTS OF FRACTURES, SHEARED, AND SERICITIZED GRANODIORITE AND RANGE IN THICKNESS FROM 2 TO 20 FT. PYRITE & SMALL AMOUNTS OF ARSENOPYRITE OCCUR AS DISSEMINATIONS AND PODS IN BOTH THE ALTERED GRANODIORITE OF THE MINERALIZED ZONES AND IN THE VEIN QUARTZ ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
