Mine Info
Satelite View
MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comment (Deposit): THE KEYSTONE CLAIM COVERS THE FIRST OUTEROPPING OF THE SILVER CITY BRANCH BELOW THE MAIN COMSTOCK LODE. IN THE EARLY DAYS IT WAS DEVELOPED BY A TUNNEL, AN INCLINED SHAFT WITH LEVELS TO 270 FEET, AND A 400 FT VERTICAL SHAFT. THE ORE DEVELOPED WAS TOO LOW GRADE FOR STOPING BUT WITH THE INCREASED PRICE OF GOLD PROFITABLE SHIPMENTS WERE MADE IN THE 1930'S WITH A RECORDED PRODUCTION THROUGH 1939 OF $146.44 FROM 15,074 TONS. THE DAYTON MINE TOOK OVER, REHABILITED THE SHAFT, AND MINED PYRITIC ANDESITE FROM THE CROSSCUTS. BY THE TIME THE DAYTON MINE CLOSED, 170,000 TONS OF $10 KEYSTONE ORE HAD BEEN MINED. NEARLY 90% WAS GOLD VALUES WITH OVER A 90% EXTRACTION RATE.
