Bald Mountain Mine

The Bald Mountain Mine is a gold and silver mine located in White Pine county, Nevada at an elevation of 7,149 feet.

About the MRDS Data:

All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Land Status

Land ownership: BLM Administrative Area
Note: the land ownership field only identifies whether the area the mine is in is generally on public lands like Forest Service or BLM land, or if it is in an area that is generally private property. It does not definitively identify property status, nor does it indicate claim status or whether an area is open to prospecting. Always respect private property.

Comments

Comment (Deposit): First Production Year: 1983 (PILOT SCALE); 1986 (FULL SCALE)

Comment (Commodity): THE TOP AND RBM DEPOSITS BOTH HAVE HIGH CU, ZN, AND AG CONTENTS ASSOCIATED WITH AU MINERALIZATION AS WELL AS ANOMALOUS VALUES IN BI, HG, AS, SB, AND TELLURIDES. RAT AND NORTH DEPOSITS HAVE LOW TO NON-EXISTENT BASE METAL SIGNATURES WITH HIGHER HG, AS, AND SB VALUES.

Comment (Location): UTM'S TO TOP PIT; PREVIOUS QUAD DESIGNATION = ELY (1971) 1:250000

Comment (Development): PLACER BEGAN EXPLORATION ON THE PROPERTY IN 1977. IN 1983, A 2 MONTH, $1.96 MILLION HEAP LEACH TEST PRODUCED 3500 OZ. AU FROM 66,000 ST OF ORE. IN 1985, TEST MINING AND HEAP LEACH OPERATIONS WERE CONDUCTED, A FINAL FEASIBILITY DECISION WAS MADE, AND THE PERMITTING PROCESS WAS COMPLETED. BALD MOUNTAIN MINE WAS CONVERTED FROM PILOT SCALE TO FULL SCALE PRODUCTION IN 1986. STAGE III DEVELOPMENT OF THE TOP OREBODY COMMENCED IN MID-1987 WITH A THIRD MINE SHIFT REQUIRED TO HANDLE INCREASED MINE PRODUCTION. ALSO IN 1987, THE LEACH PAD WAS EXPANDED BY 180,000 SQUARE FEET AND 3 PROCESS SOLUTION PONDS WERE LINED WITH ARTIFICIAL MEMBRANE MATERIAL TO CONTAIN AU-BEARING SOLUTIONS. IN 1988, THE TOP OREBODY PROVIDED MOST OF THE HEAP LEACH FEED, WHILE THE RBM DEPOSIT WAS PLACED INTO PRODUCTION LATE IN THE YEAR. ALSO IN 1988, 5 ADDITIONAL CARBON COLUMNS WERE INSTALLED AND NEW LEACH PAD CONSTRUCTION ADDED 680,000 SQUARE FEET OF LEACHING AREA. TOTAL$: 12; ECON.YEAR: 1986. ; ECON.COM: CASH PRODUCTION COST

Comment (Development): PER OZ. OF AU WAS $256 IN 1987, $273 IN 1988, $252 IN 1989, AND $218 IN 1990. TOTAL PRODUCTION COST PER OZ. OF AU WAS $297 IN 1987, $320 IN 1988, $305 IN 1989, AND $289 IN 1990.

Comment (Workings): PRODUCTION HAS COME FROM FOUR PITS: TOP, RBM, RAT, AND NORTH.

Comment (Geology): ALTERATION COMMENTS: SILICIFICATION, ARGILLIZATION, POTASSIC ALTERATION. THE MAIN ALTERATION FEATURE AT BALD MOUNTAIN IS THE LARGE HALO OF SILICIFICATION AND STRONG ARGILLIZATION. POTASSIC ALTERATION IS RECOGNIZED AT DEPTH. GEOLOGY COMMENTS: HOST ROCKS ARE CALCAREOUS SHALES AND DARK GRAY LIMESTONES WHICH WEATHER TO IRON-OXIDE STAINED RED-BROWN-MAROON AND TAN COLORS. GRANITIC INTRUSIVE WITH QUARTZ PHENOCRYSTS AND OXIDIZED PYRITE WAS NOTED IN CUT FACE OF DRILL ROADS.

Comment (Deposit): DO NOT CONFUSE BALD MOUNTAIN MINE WITH LITTLE BALD MOUNTAIN MINE (MRDS RECORD W700447).
