Comments

Comment (Deposit): VEIN EMPLACED ALONG BEDDING-PLANE FRACTURE?

Comment (Workings): 2 ORE MORE S-TRENDING ADITS. REMAINS OF CORRUGATED ASSAY LAB FOUND AT UPPER ADIT. ADITS ARE OPEN AT PORTAL. TRENCHES 5-10 YR. OLD

Comment (Geology): ROCK ON UPPER DUMP IS MOSTLY QUARTZITE WITH LESSER DK BROWN EARTHY & SILICEOUS GOSSAN QUARTZ IS FE-STAINED WITH MINOR QUARTZ VEINING AND RECRYSTALLIZATION. ALL ROCKS COATED WITH ABUNDANT FE AND MN OXIDES. ALSO THERE ARE A LOT OF GREEN, YELLOW, AND BRIGHT ORANGE OXIDES PROBABLY AFTER AS, FE, S, OR PB MINERALS. SOME QUARTZ VEIN MATERIAL ON DUMP DISPLAYS SMALL VUGS FILLED WITH IRON-STAINED PRISMATIC QUARTZ AND A MINOR AMOUNT OF UNOXIDIZED PYRITE. OTHERWISE, NO OBVIOUS MINERALIZATION WAS OBSERVED. IT IS LIKELY THAT MOST OF THE MINERALIZED VEIN MATERIAL IS OXIDIZED TO EARTHY BROWN MASSES WITH ONLY THE BRIGHTLY COLORED OXIDES REMAINING. SCORODITE (FE AS H2O) AFTER ARSENO-PYRITE IS REPORTED FROM NEAR THIS LOCALITY. ALTHOUGH THE VEIN WAS NOT DIRECTLY OBSERVED AT THE WORKINGS, THE BEDDING OF THE QUARTZITE MEASURED AT THE LOWER PORTAL IS APPROXIMATELY N-S AND DIPS 30E. MOST VEINS IN THIS AREA FOLLOW N-S FRACTURES POSSIBLY DEVELOPED ALONG BEDDING PLANES.

Comment (Location): IN COBALT CANYON ON S. SIDE OF CANYON ; INFO FROM LAND.ST :1972

Comment (Development): NO ACTIVITY AT TIME OF EXAMINATION IN AUG. 1983, BUT TRENCHES 5-10 YR. OLD FOUND IN AREA
