The Forlorn Hope Mine is a lead, zinc, silver, and copper mine located in Lincoln county, Nevada at an elevation of 7,041 feet.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments
Comment (Location): SOMETIMES DESCRIBED IN COMET DISTRICT
Comment (Development): IN 1983, NERCO WAS DOING INITIAL EXPLORATION AND ASSESSMENT WORK ON THEIR CLAIMS IN THIS AREA. SOME EVIDENCE OF RECENT SAMPLING OF THE DUMPS
Comment (Geology): CARBONATES SHOW EVIDENCE OF RECRYSTALLIZATION, CONTAINING REMOBILIZED PODS OF WHITE CALCITE. SOME OF THE SHALES CONTAIN FINELY CRYSTALLINE PYRITE (PARTIALLY OXIDIZED) DISSEMINATED THROUGHOUT AND IN VEINLETS.
Comment (Deposit): SAMPLE 1444 WAS COLLECTED FROM THE DUMP AND CONSISTS OF QUARTZ-MANGANESE-SIDERITE-SULFIDE ORE WHICH IS QUITE DENSE. IT CONTAINS UNOXIDIZED CRYSTALS AND LENSES OF PYRITE, CHALCOPYRITE, POSSIBLY SOME BLACK SPHALERITE (?) AND MINOR GALENA. ROCK DIFFERS FROM OTHER MINERALIZED ROCK FOUND ALONG THE WESTERN HIGHLAND RANGE IN THAT IT CONTAINS MORE PYRITE AND CHALCOPYRITE AND FEWER LEAD AND ZINC MINERALS. THE FORLORN HOPE DIKE AND VEIN ZONE IS ONE OF THE MOST CONTINUOUS MINERALIZED STRUCTURES IN THE AREA, HAVING A DISCONTINUOUSLY EXPOSED STRIKE LENGTH OF 3800 FT, CUTTING ROCKS FROM THE PIOCHE SHALE TO THE BURNT CANYON MEMBER OF THE HIGHLAND PEAK FM. THE VEIN ITSELF IS ABOUT 1 FT THICK, BUT A LARGE BEDDED, ALTERED AND MINERALIZED ZONE OCCURS NEAR THE VEIN IN MEMBER A OF THE LYNDON LIMESTONE. THE ALTERED AND BRECCIATED ZONE HAS A STRIKE LENGTH OF OVER 800 FT AND IS UP TO 100 FT THICK. THE MINERALIZED ROCK NEAR THE VEIN INTERSECTION CONTAINS MODERATE AMOUNTS OF GALENA AND FE-MN OXIDES.
Comment (Deposit): MINERALIZATION DROPS OFF SHARPLY ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE PROJECTED VEIN AND TAPES OFF WITHIN 20 FT ON THE NORTH SIDE. THE REMAINDER OF THE ALTERED ZONE IS SPOTTED LOCALLY WITH LIMONITE MINERALS AND CONSISTS
Comment (Workings): VERTICAL SHAFT, ONE N20-25E-TRENDING ADIT 521 FT LONG, VERTICAL RAISE TO SURFACE, VERTICAL WINZE TO COMBINED METALS MEMBER

Nevada Gold
Nevada has a total of 368 distinct gold districts. Of the of those, just 36 are major producers with production and/or reserves of over 1,000,000 ounces, 49 have production and/or reserves of over 100,000 ounces, with the rest having less than 100,000 ounces. Read more: Gold Districts of Nevada.
