The Horse Canyon Mine is a gold mine located in Eureka county, Nevada at an elevation of 8,301 feet.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments
Comment (Development): LISTED AS ACTIVE OPEN PIT GOLD MINE IN 1983, EMPLOYING 106 WORKERS. ANNUAL RECOVERY OF 40000 OZ AU WAS PROJECTED IN1982. PROPERTY WAS BEING DRILLED ON CLOSE SPACING PREPARATORY TO OPEN PIT MINING IN 1982. HAUL ROAD WAS IN PROCESS OF BEING COMPLETED. 1983, MINE WAS OPERATING ON 2 10-HOUR SHIFTS PER DAY.
Comment (Deposit): FINE GOLD DISSEMINATED IN CARBONACEOUS SHALE IN UPPER PLATE OF ROBERTS MTN THRUST. JASPEROID BRECCIA. BOULDERY RESISTANT RIB OF JASPEROID TRENDS NW ALONG MOST OF AREA COVERED BY DRILL ROADS.
Comment (Workings): OPEN PIT, NUMEROUS DRILL ROADS, DRILL HOLES.
Comment (Location): UTM IS TO AREA WITHIN LARGE PROPOSED OPEN PIT AT HEAD OF HORSE CANYON ON EAST FLANK OF MT. TENABO NEAR SADDLE BETWEEN HORSE CANYON AND MILL CANYON. ; INFO FROM LAND.ST :1972
Comment (Production): SCHEDULED ANNUAL PRODUCTION, 1983 WAS 730,000 TONS AT A STRIPPING RATIO OF 3:1. ORE WAS BEING HAULED TO THE CORTEZ MILL.
Comment (Geology): ALONG SE DRILL ROADS, MOST CONSPICUOUS FEATURE IS VININI-HOSTED JASPEROID BRECCIA FORMING A RESISTANT NW-STRIKING RIB ABOVE DRILL ROADS. JASPEROID IS HIGHLY SILICIFIED, FRACTURED, AND FE-STAINED ALONG THE FRACTURES. BEDDING IS PRESERVED IN THE JASPEROID IN PLACES AND DIPS SE. BELOW THE JASPEROID BRECCIA ARE THIN CONTORTED BEDS OF BLACK CARBONACEOUS SHALES. IN ONE AREA THE SE-DIPPING SHALES ARE CUT BY AN ALTERED IGNEOUS DIKE, MOSTLY ALTERED TO CLAYS. THE SURROUNDING SHALES HAVE BEEN BLEACHED. NBMG SAMPLE 1517 A WAS TAKEN HERE, OF BLACK SILICEOUS SHALE AND CHERTY SHALE DRILL CUTTINGS. TO THE NW IN PROBABLE PROPOSED PIT AREA (1982) THE RESISTANT RIB OF VININI JASPEROID BRECCIA IS STILL PRESENT. BELOW THE BRECCIA ARE THIN BEDDED SILICEOUS SEDIMENTS. A LARGE BOULDER OF BRECCIA FOUND ON THE ROAD WAS CUT BY A SMALL BRECCIA VEIN CONTAINING A CLAST OF QUARTZ-EYE PORPHYRY. HOWEVER, THE MOST NOTABLE OCCURRENCE WAS OF ABUNDANT EUHEDRAL JAROSITE CRYSTALS DEVELOPED IN THE OPEN FRACTURES OF THE
Comment (Geology): JASPEROID (SAMPLE 1518B). SOME BARITE VEIN AND GANGUE WAS ALSO NOTED IN THIS AREA. NBMG SAMPLE 1519 CONSISTS OF DRILL CUTTINGS OF DARK GREY CALCAREOUS SHALES WITH FINE DISSEMINATED SULFIDES.
