The Son No. 6 Claim is a silver mine located in Humboldt county, Nevada at an elevation of 5,351 feet.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Note: the land ownership field only identifies whether the area the mine is in is generally on public lands like Forest Service or BLM land, or if it is in an area that is generally private property. It does not definitively identify property status, nor does it indicate claim status or whether an area is open to prospecting. Always respect private property.

Comments
Comment (Workings): 6 OR MORE ADITS, NEARLY ALL CAVED AT PORTAL, WITH MODERATE SIZED DUMPS.
Comment (Deposit): THE ADITS APPEAR TO EXPLORE ONE OR MORE QUARTZ VEINS IN AN IRON-STAINED, SERICITICALLY ALTERED GRANITE PORPHYRY. THE MINERALIZED ZONE CANNOT BE OBSERVED IN MOST OF THE WORKINGS. THERE APPEARS TO BE A N 15 W, 35 NE QUARTZ VEIN WHICH SEVERAL ADITS EXPLORE. A NEARLY FLAT QUARTZ VEIN WAS OBSERVED IN WORKINGS NEAR THE CANYON BOTTOM, BELOW THE MAINLINE OF ADITS. VEIN MATTER ON THE DUMPS CONTAINS IRON-AND MANGANESE-OXIDE MINERALS, SPARSE GREEN OXIDE COPPER MINERALS, CHALCOCITE?, TETRAHEDRITE?, AND PYRITE. QUITE A LOT OF QUARTZ VEIN MATTER IS PRESENT ON THE DUMPS, BUT THERE WERE FEW ECONOMIC MINERALS OBSERVED. THE VEIN QUARTZ IS WHITE, COMMONLY MASSIVE OR CRUSTIFORM, WITH SPARSE DRUSY AREAS. THE MAIN? VEIN QUARTZ OCCURS NEAR THE INTRUSIVE CONTACT WITH CAMBRIAN PREBLE FM SILTSTONE. THE CONTACT IS EXTENSIVELY SHEARED AND THE PORPHYRY IS LOCALLY SHEARED AND BRECCIATED. THE GRANITE PORPHYRY IS LOCALLY APLITIC. A DIKE OF HORNBLENDE-BEARING, CHLORITIZED GRANODIORITE PORPHYRY WAS ALSO
Comment (Deposit): NOTED. CHLORITIZATION IS COMMON IN THE SHEARED CONTACT ZONE. THE AREA WAS REPORTEDLY DRILLED AS A MOLYBDENUM TARGET IN THE 1968-1973 PERIOD; POSSIBLY THIS EXPLORATION WAS CENTERED ON THE GRANITE PORPHYRY.
Comment (Location): BETWEEN GREGG AND GRANITE CANYONS ON EAST SLOPE OF SONOMA RANGE . INFO FROM LAND.ST :(1972)
Comment (Development): SON NO. 6 CLAIM (1974-GALLI EXPLORATIONS); VET NO. 6 CLAIM (1983-DECKER EXPLORATION)
