MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Deposit): SAMPLES #4140, #4141 AND #4142 ARE OF SELECT QUARTZ-TOURMALINE VEIN MATTER FROM SEVERAL VEINS IN A MINERALIZED AREA OF ABOUT 0.25 SQUARE KM. OXIDE COPPER MINERALS OCCUR IN SOME SAMPLES, AS WELL AS IRON AND MANGANESE OXIDE MINERALS.

Comment (Geology): THE WELDED TUFFS ARE MEDIUM PURPLISH GRAY WEATHERING DARK GRAY ROCKS WHICH REPRESENT METAMORPHOSED (GREEN SCHIST FACIES) RHYODACITE IGNIMBRITES. THE IGNIMBRITES HAVE A LIGHT-COLORED SILICIC MATRIX WITH PHENOCRYSTS OF PINK TO WHITE ALBITIZED PLAGIOCLASE, AND PROBABLY ORIGINALLY BIOTITE. NO PHENOCRYSTIC QUARTZ WAS OBSERVED. THE TUFFS GENERALLY CONTAIN COMPACTED PUMICE AND LITHIC FRAGMENTS, AND ARE MODERATELY CRYSTAL-RICH. LITHIC CONTENT VARIES FROM LOW TO HIGH, AND CONSISTS MAINLY OF FRAGMENTS OF ANDESITE AND RELATED INTERMEDIATE-COMPOSITION VOLCANIC ROCKS; QUARTZ PHENOCRYSTS ARE GENERALLY ABSENT IN THE LITHIC FRAGMENTS AS WELL. LITHICS ARE GENERALLY ABOUT 1 CM IN AVERAGE SIZE, LOCALLY PUMICE IS UP TO 15 CM LONG AND 2 CM THICK; USUALLY IT IS 1-2 CM LONG. AT SAMPLE SITE 4140 A QUARTZ TOURMALINE VEIN WITH SPARSE COPPER MINERALIZATION IS EXPOSED. ALTHOUGH NO VEIN ATTITUDE CAN BE DETERMINED BECAUSE OF POOR OUTCROP THE WORKINGS TREND TOWARD SITE 4142 (A N35E TREND) WHEN SIMILAR VEIN

Comment (Geology): MINERALIZATION IS OBSERVED.

Comment (Workings): FOUR SHORT ADITS ( 3 AT SITE 4140, ONE POSSIBLY 50M) ALL CAVED AT PORTAL, NUMEROUS PROSPECT PITS. ONE ADIT IS AT SITE 4142. BULLDOZER CUTS AT SITE 4141. ONLY BULLDOZER CUTS ARE SHOWN ON THE TOPOGRAPHIC MAP.
