Comments

Comment (Geology): GEOL.DESC: MANGANESE ORE OCCURS WITHIN MASS OF HIGHLY DECOMPOSED SILICEOUS PORPHYRY. AT MANY POINTS A HARD GOSSAN OCCURS AT SURFACE, CONTAINING MANGANESE. THE MANGANESE-BEARING PORPHYRY OCCURS IN N.W. CORNER OF BROAD RECTANGULAR SHAPED AREA OF SHALE AND ASSOCIATED ROCKS OF PIT FORMATION (MIDDLE AND UPPER TRIASSIC) W. OF PORPHYRY, IN ABRUPT CONTACT, IS DENSE BRIGHT RED JASPER WITH SOME MANGANESE STAINS, PYRITE, CHALCOPYRITE AND QUARTZ VEINLETS. ORE CONSISTS OF MIXTURE OF BLACK MANGANESE OXIDES WITH KAOLIN, IRON OXIDES, QUARTZ, OPAL AND CHALCEDONY, THE DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS OF PORPHYRY.
