Mine Info
Satelite View
MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments
Comment (Deposit): "A 107 ft. shaft was sunk on the north side of Horseshoe Creek, in the east-central part of sec. 21, T28N, R71W. "Rusty schist" at the surface gave way to a heavy, shallow body of pyrrhotite. A northeast trending graphite-pyrrhotite schist 1 ft. to 2 ft. thick underlies the pyrrhotite mass with a little chalcopyrite. Hornblende and quartz were mixed with pyrrhotite. Traces of sphalerite also reported." (Bull. 50, p. 39).
Comment (Deposit): "A graphite-pyrrhotite schist was encountered at 107 ft. depth." (Bull. 50, p. 94).
Comment (Location): Maggie Murphy claim is listed in Bull. 50, p. 94 (under Graphite) as being in Albany County, east-central part of sec. 21, T28N, R71W. (Record was plotting in Converse county, but with corrected lat/longs it is now in Albany Co.)
Comment (Commodity): "pyrrhotite sometimes contains commercial quantities of nickel (Bull. 50, p. 119)."
Comment (Deposit): QTZ VEIN BEARING PYRRHOTITE CUTS RED GRANITE, MICA & SCHIST (from deleted record 10182091)
Comment (Commodity): Report of an AEC airborne RA anomaly in the vicinity (from deleted record MAS 0560010074 (10229431).
Comment (Geology): MICA AND HORNBLENDE SCHIST LAYERS IN GRANITE
Comment (Deposit): 5 FT VEIN OF PYRRHOTITE BENEATH OXIDIZED ZONE. ANOTHER SHAFT FOUND PYRRHOTITE MIXED WITH COARSE-GRAINED MARCASITE AND A LITTLE DISSEMINATED CHALCOPYRITE. AT 50 FT PYRRHOTITE BECAME QUARTZOSE. PYRRHOTITE PASSED OUT OF THE SHAFT AT 60 FT.
Comment (Location): NORTH SIDE OF HORSESHOE CREEK
Comment (Location): County is in question. Bull. 50 states that this is Albany Co, and only gives the SW4 of the entire township. Most of the SW4 is in Converse County. The shaft on the map that is presumed to be the Maggie Murphy is in Converse County.
