Materials
Ore: Hematite
Comments
Comment (Location): IN THE EAST END OF THE SHIRLEY MOUNTAINS
Comment (Deposit): HEMATITE IS SCATTERED THROUGHOUT PEGMATITE DIKES IN GRANITE. LOCALLY THERE IS A CENTRAL SEAM 1-2 FT WIDE OF PURE HARD BLUE HEMATITE. WHERE THE PEGMATITE CUTS THROUGH SYENITE THE ROCK IS IMPREGNATED FOR 100 FT FROM THE DIKE.
Comment (Identification): From comments and reference, this record clearly is derived from the entry in Bull. 50, p. 114, labeled "Shirley District". It should probably be more accuately described as "Unknown Iron Mine in the Shirley District". The shaft on the topo in the center of this section (18) is labeled "Iron Mine". This is a site, not District, record.
Comment (Orebody): Dike is about 1/2 mi. long. Central seam of hard blue hematite is 1 to 2 ft. thick.
