Comments
Comment (Production): ACTIVE IN 1890'S; LAST CHANCE AGAIN ACTIVE ABOUT 1909; BALDWIN CLAIM REOPENED ABOUT 1914 AND SOME GOLD PRODUCED. BRIARCLIFFE MINES LTD. ACQUIRED BOTH CLAIMS IN 1932 AND OPERATED 1932-36 AND 1940-41. MOST OF WORK WAS ON THE BALDWIN CLAIM. UP TO 1936 MORE THAN 30,000 TONS OF ORE THAT YIELDED $3 TO $4 PER TON HAD BEEN MINED. TWO CLAIMS, BALDWIN AND LAST CHANCE. ALTHOUGH THE DEPOSIT IS A MILE EAST OF THE MOTHER LODE, VEINS AND ORES ARE SIMILAR. THERE IS CONSIDERABLE CONFLICT IN REFERENCES AND IT IS POSSIBLE PRESENT HOLDINGS ARE NOT IN ALL SECTIONS SHOWN ABOVE. USGS QUAD. SHOWS WORKINGS IN NW1/4 SEC. 12.
Comment (Workings): A 200-FT. INCLINED SHAFT; DRIFT ADIT CONNECTED WITH SHAFT; 500-FT. WINZE SUNK FROM ADIT ABOUT 500 FT. IN FROM THE PORTAL.
