The Calico Hills is a iron, copper, lead, zinc, molybdenum, uranium, and chromium mine located in Mineral county, Nevada.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments
Comment (Development): AERIAL AND GROUND MAGNETICS, GRAVITY, SEISMIC, AND IP STUDIES WERE DONE IN 1963 AND 1964. DRILLING BEGAN IN 1965. MARTEL DRILLED 19,887 FT. IN 7 HOLES. A TOTAL OF 27,987 FT. WERE DRILLED IN 11 HOLES BETWEEN 1965 AND 1969. SEISMIC SURVEYS WERE NOT USEFUL IN DELINEATING POTENTIAL ECONOMIC TARGETS. THE LAST KNOWN EXPLORATION WAS IN 1978. AFTER 1978, LEASE NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN THE COMPANIES AND THE WALKER RIVER TRIBAL COUNCIL BROKE DOWN. ; ECON.COM: ASSAYS FROM 1,760 FT. - 2,286 FT. RAN 46.8% FE, 3.08% S, 0.5% CU, 0.03% P, ADDITIONAL METALLURGICAL TESTING RESULTS IN LAWRENCE, 1967, P. 8. SATKOSKI DESCRIBES "DISSAPPOINTING" ANALYSES (P. 58-59).
Comment (Deposit): THE IP AND DRILLING "DISCLOSED EXTENSIVE MINERALIZATION AT DEPTHS OF 400 FT. ON THE NORTHWEST END AND OVER 1,000 FT. TO THE SOUTHEAST," (LAWRENCE). DRILL HOLE CA-1 CUT THE PRE-TERTIARY/VOLCANIC CONTACT AT 1,308 FT. SKARN AND HORNFELS WERE FOUND IN ALL MARTEL DRILL HOLES. SKARN WAS ALSO REPORTED ON SURFACE IN SEC. 31 (LAWRENCE). CALCITE-GTZ-PY-CHALCOPYRITE/VEINLETS CUT THE SKARN. POSSIBLY 2 MINERALIZING EVENTS, AN EARLIER FE-MN EVENT, AND LATER CU+PB+ZN, ETC. EVENT.
Comment (Geology): TERTIARY TUFFS, INTRUDED BY ANDESITE, BASALT, CAP OLDER ROCKS IN THE AREA.
Comment (Deposit): THE DEPOSIT WAS INITIALLY IDENTIFIED BY GEOPHYSICAL SURVEYS. 10 MILES OF STRIKE-SLIP FAULTING MAY HAVE SEPARATED THE CALICO AND HOTTENTOT DEPOSITS. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT
Comment (Commodity): PARAGENETIC SEQUENCE: MAGNETITE, PYRRHOTITE, PYRITE, CHALCOPYRITE. COPPER MINERALIZATION MORE PREVALENT ALONG SOUTH FLANK OF INTRUSIVE (LAWRENCE). COPPER MAY FORM HALO IN TUFFS, FROM UPWARD MIGRATION OF CU RELEASED BY OXIDIZING SULPHIDES IN QUARTZ DIORITE.
Comment (Location): UTM IS ON "DH" MARKED ON NWSWNW SECTION 5, R29E, T13N, ON WEBER DAM (PROVISIONAL 1987) 7.5' TOPO.

Nevada Gold
Nevada has a total of 368 distinct gold districts. Of the of those, just 36 are major producers with production and/or reserves of over 1,000,000 ounces, 49 have production and/or reserves of over 100,000 ounces, with the rest having less than 100,000 ounces. Read more: Gold Districts of Nevada.
