Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Deposit): WORLD CLASS FE AND TI DEPOSIT. HAYNES HIGHWAY NEARBY PROVIDES GOOD TRANSPORTATION. SIGNIFICANT VALUES OF PLATINUM GROUP METALS (AU, PT, PD). AVERAGE PT VALUE OF 0.0027 OZ/TON GIVEN IN USGS P 820, P. 541 IS DISPUTED IN USBM 84-21, P. 14 WHICH GIVES AVERAGE OF 0.001-0.002 OZ/TON ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT

Comment (Deposit): THIS SITE NAME WAS CREATED BY THE REPORTER OR OTHER USGS EMPLOYEE BASED ON PROXIMITY TO SOME MAJOR GEOGRAPHIC FEATURE.

Comment (Location): USGS MF-424, LOCATION 16. LOCATION IS IN CANYON JUST ABOVE LARGE ALLUVIAL FAN, IN CENTER OF DEPOSIT AREA, WHICH EXTENDS 4 MI NW AND SE BY 1 MI WIDE ON SW SLOPE OF TAKSHANUK MTNS. LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).

Comment (Geology): KLUKWAN ULTRAMAFIC PYROXENITE SURROUNDED BY HORNBLENDE DIORITE, WHICH IS BORDERED ON THE W BY CRET META-BASALT AND BY TERT QUARTZ DIORITE ON THE E.

Comment (Deposit): DEPOSIT IS KLUKWAN ULTRAMAFIC PYROXENITE SURROUNDED BY HORNBLENDE DIORITE. THE PYROXENITE HAS DISSEMINATED MAGNETITE AND ILMENITE, AS WELL AS LENSES OF ALMOST PURE MAGNETITE-ILMENITE. THE MAGNETITE IS TITANIFEROUS. OTHER METALLIC GANGUE MINERALS INCLUDE HEMATITE, CHALCOPYRITE, PYRITE, LEUCOXENE, AND BORNITE. THE LARGEST CONCENTRATION OF TITANIFEROUS MAGNETITE OCCURS IN THE LOWER PORTIONS OF THE ULTRAMAFIC. GOLD, PLATINUM, AND PALLADIUM ARE MOST ABUNDANT IN AREAS WITH HIGH COPPER CONCENTRATION IN CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF DEPOSIT (FROM LOCATION POINT SOUTH). THE PYROXENITE BODY ENDS 0.5 MI SE OF LOCATION POINT, AND CONTACTS HORNBLENDE DIORITE WITH A SERIES OF CHALCOPYRITE, BORNITE, AND MALACHITE BEARING HYDROTHERMAL PINCH AND SWELL VEINS OCCUPYING N STRIKING STEEPLY DIPPING SHEAR ZONES. THESE VEINS HAVE HIGH CU, AU, PT, AND PD CONTENT. THE ULTRAMAFIC PYROXENITE BODY IS 4 MI LONG, AND UP TO 1.5 MI WIDE, TRENDING NW-SE. TOTAL SIZE OF MINERALIZED AREA IS AT LEAST 8 MI LONG

Comment (Deposit): AND 1.5 MI WIDE, ALSO TRENDING NW-SE. TOTAL LODE DEPOSIT RESERVES ESTIMATED AT 3.5 BILLION TONS WITH AVERAGE SOLUBLE FE CONTENT OF 16.8%; IN ADDITION, ANOTHER 989,761,000 TONS AT 10.8% FE ARE IN THE ALLUVIAL FAN (USBM OF 84-21, P. 5). 500 MILLION TONS NEAR BASE OF PYROXENITE BODY HAVE OVER 20% FE. USGS P820, P. 541 CLAIMS 500 MILLION TONS OF TITANIFEROUS MAGNETITE WITH 0.0027 OZ/TON PLATINUM GROUP METALS, WHICH USBM OF 84-21, P. 14, DISPUTES.

Comment (Workings): DIAMOND DRILLING IN 1952, SURFACE SAMPLING, PIT SAMPLING, AND CHURN DRILLING DONE BY 1961.

Comment (Development): CONSIDERABLE EXPLORATION DONE ON BOTH LODE AND FAN DEPOSITS, A FEW TONS OF ORE SHIPPED FOR TESTING, BUT NO PRODUCTION. 26 PATENTED LODE CLAIMS ON LOWER ONE-THIRD OF KLUKWAN ULTRAMAFIC.
