Cheechako Gulch

The Cheechako Gulch is a gold mine located in Alaska.

About the MRDS Data:

All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Geology): Geologic Description = Smith (1933) reports on-going placer mining at this location in 1931, however, no deposit description for this site is available. Most likely it is a bench deposit similar to the Pleistocene age Cache Creek deposits (TL029). Bedrock is Tertiary sedimentary rocks of the Kenai Group (Reed and Nelson, 1980). Clark and Hawley (1968, p.45) report the gold fineness as 869 1/4.

Comment (Reference): Primary Reference = Smith,1933

Comment (Workings): Workings / Exploration = The drainage has been prospected and mined by various small scale surface methods.

Comment (Deposit): Other Comments = Also see Cache Creek (TL029).

Comment (Deposit): Model Name = Placer Au-PGE (Cox and Singer, 1986; model 39a).

Comment (Exploration): Status = Probably inactive

Comment (Geology): Age = Pleistocene.
