The Dome Creek Placer is a gold mine located in Alaska.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.
Mine Info
Satelite View
MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments
Comment (Deposit): THIS SITE NAME WAS CREATED BY THE REPORTER OR OTHER USGS EMPLOYEE BASED ON PROXIMITY TO SOME MAJOR GEOGRAPHIC FEATURE.
Comment (Geology): MIDDLE SECTION OF DOME CREEK HAS A LOWER GRADIENT THAN PARTS UPSTREAM AND DOWNSTREAM. ; MAJOR.UNITS: BEDROCK IS SCHIST AND CRYSTALINE LIMESTONE CUT BY QUARTZ VEINS. ; REG.COM: SOURCE OF GOLD THOUGHT TO BE GOLD BEARING QUARTZ VEINS CUTTING SCHIST. PRESENCE OF SOME FINE GOLD THROUGHOUT GRAVEL SUGGESTS GOLD MAY HAVE TRAVELED A CONSIDERABLE DISTANCE FROM ITS BEDROCK SOURCE.
Comment (Deposit): STREAM GRADIENT 50 TO 100 FEET PER MILE ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT
Comment (Location): USGS MF-393, LOC. 70. PLACER MINES MARKED ON EAGLE (B-1). COORDINATES GIVEN ARE FOR BENCH NORTH OF DOME CREEK, JUST WEST OF CONFLUENCE WITH LITTLE MILLER CR. LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).
Comment (Development): GOLD DISCOVERED IN 1893 AT MOUTH OF LITTLE MILLER CREEK. MINED MAINLY BY HYDRAULIC PLANTS AT SEVERAL LOCATIONS. MINING REPORTED AS RECENTLY AS 1940.
Comment (Deposit): GOLD MAINLY NEAR OR ON BEDROCK BENCH, BUT SOME FINE GOLD THROUGHOUT BENCH GRAVEL, AS MUCH AS 80 FEET THICK. BENCH EXTENDS 4 MILES UPSTREAM AND AT LEAST 2 MILES DOWNSTREAM FROM LITTLE MILLER CREEK; MOST OF MINING DOWNSTREAM FROM LITTLE MILLER CREEK, BECAUSE GRAVEL INCREASES IN THICKNESS UPSTREAM. BENCH ALONG NORTH WALL OF VALLEY APPROXIMATELY 1,200 FEET FROM THE CREEK AND 125 FEET VERTICALLY ABOVE. A LITTLE GOLD WAS RECOVERED FROM DOME CR. IMMEDIATELY BELOW THE MOUTH OF LITTLE MILLER CR.; ALL OTHER PRODUCTION FROM THE BENCH.
