Comment (Location): USGS MF-405, LOC. 33. PLACER GROUND IN MIDDLE AND HEADWATER SECTION OF CREEK. COORDINATES GIVEN FOR INFERED CENTER OF PLACER GROUND. LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).

Comment (Development): GOLD DISCOVERED IN 1913-14 IN UPPER VALLEY; DRIFT MINING REPORTED IN SEVERAL YEARS IN THE 1920'S AND 1930'S.

Comment (Deposit): IN UPPER VALLEY GOLD EVENLY DISTRIBUTED THROUGH 4-5 FT. OF ANGULAR WASH BOUND BY CLAY AND OVERLAIN BY 22 FT. OF MUCK; LITTLE OR NO GOLD ON BEDROCK; PAY STREAK ABOUT 40 FT. WIDE. FURTHER DOWNSTREAM GOLD FOUND IN A STRATUM ABOUT 1 FOOT THICK IMMEDIATELY ABOVE BEDROCK. PAY STREAK 15-80 FT. WIDE; CONSISTED OF SEVERAL HIGH-GRADE NARROW STREAKS DISTRIBUTED OVER A WIDTH OF 80 FEET.

Comment (Workings): SHAFTS SUNK 30 TO 60 PLUS FEET TO BEDROCK FOR DRIFT MINING. ALLUVIUM SOLIDLY FROZEN AND MAY BE WORKED IN SUMMER OR WINTER.

Comment (Geology): HEADWATER PART OF VALLEY NARROW AND STEEP; DOWNSTREAM THE VALLEY BECOMES WIDE AND OPEN AND MERGES WITH VALLEY FLOOR OF POORMAN CREEK. ; MAJOR.UNITS: BEDROCK IS PHYLLITE, SLATY PHYLLITE, AND SLATE. ; REG.COM: LODE SOURCE OF GOLD UNDOUBTEDLY IN DRAINAGE BASIN, BUT NEITHER IT NOR THE SOURCE OF THE RADIOACTIVE MINERAL HAS BEEN FOUND.
