Comments
Comment (Deposit): STRINGERS & NARROW VEINS NUMEROUS DIKES INTERBEDDED W/SCHIST, USUALLY SEEN IN WORKINGS ALONG HANGING WALL SECTIONS. SAID TO CONTAIN BEST ORE.
Comment (Production): ORE SAID TO AVG. $37/TON IN GOLD BY MILLING. (FROM SOURDOUGH CLAIM). NO PRODUCTION RECORD FOUND.
Comment (Workings): DEVEL. ON VICTORY, HARDSCRABBLE AND ADVANCE CLAIMS FOR NEARLY 1 MILE ALONG STRIKE. SOURDOUGH HAS ADITS, 175 & 160 FT. LONG, 55 FT. SHAFT ON 4 FT. THICK VEIN. ALSO 300 FT. CROSSCUT & CONSIDERABLE DRIFTING. ON PEERLESS CLAIM, 2 CROSSCUTS, 92 AND 110 FT. LONG. ON LENA & PAULINE CLAIMS, ASSESSMENT WORK ONLY. OVER 200 FT. OF DEVEL. ON HUMMING BIRD, INCL. 79 FT. SHAFT, 120 FT. CROSSCUT. CROSSCUTS STARTED ON HARDSCRABBLE EXT. NO. 1 AND NO. 2 CLAIMS. MILLSITE AND SEVERAL BUILDINGS.
Comment (Geology): SEVERAL BELTS OF SCHIST, 50 FT. THICK, STRIKE N20E, DIP STEEPLY WEST. SCHIST PROBABLY DERIVED FROM OLDER SERIES OF BASIC INTRUSIVE ROCK, W/ASSOC. BEDS OF LIMESTONE. THOUGHT THAT DUE TO STRUCTURAL WEAKNESS OF BEDS, THEY BECAME LOCUS FOR SHEARING MOVEMENTS & SUBSEQUENT MINERALIZATION AFTER OR CONTEMPORANEOUS W/INJECTION OF DIKES, WHICH ARE SEVERAL GENERATIONS. SCHIST THOUGHT TO BE METAMORPHASED SEDIMENTS OF ALGONKIAN AGE. OTHERS GROUPED THEM AS PRECAMBRIAN METAMORPHICS, BELIEVING THEM PARTLY IGNEOUS IN ORIGIN. SCHIST IS HIGH IN HORNBLENDE, OCCASIONAL GRAPHITE AND CONSIDERABLE CALCITE PRESENT.
