The Dawes Gold Mine is a gold mine located in Pershing county, Nevada.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.
Mine Info
Satelite View
MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments
Comment (Production): DISTRICT PRODUCED 489 OZ AU; 705 OZ AG FOR PERIOD 1931-1934.
Comment (Development): NORTH STAR WAS ONE OF THE MOST CONTINUOUSLY ACTIVE MINES IN THE DISTRICT FROM 1930-1939. NO ACTIVITY AT TIME OF EXAMINATION IN 1984
Comment (Deposit): VEINS; MODEL NAME COULD ALSO BE: POLYMETALLIC VEINS.
Comment (Workings): MINE DEVELOPED BY SHAFTS, OPEN CUTS. WHEN VISITED IN 1984, THERE WERE 16 OR MORE SHAFTS, MOSTLY SHALLOW, WITH NUMEROUS PROSPECTS AND SOME BUILDINGS T-HAT ARE STILL USABLE.
Comment (Geology): SCOSSA VEIN IS 6 FT. WIDE. A SE TRENDING DIKE INTERSECTS THE NE STRIKING 3 PARALLEL VEINS. THE DIKES AND SILICIFIED MATERIAL IN FRACTURE ZONES, APPARENTLY FORMED DURING THE PERIOD OF INTRUSION OF HIGH TEMPERATURE BARREN QUARTZ VEINLETS. THIS LOCALIZED THE DEPOSITION OF GOLD IN THE LATER LOW-TEMPERATURE GOLD-BEARING QUARTZ VEIN SYSTEM AT AND NEAR INTERSECTIONS WITH THE DIKES AND SILICIFIED ROCKS BY FORMING AN IMPERVIOUS ZONE. THE SCOSSA VEIN WAS FORMED BY SUCCESSIVE SHEARING MOVEMENTS THAT CRUSHED AND RECEMENTED THE QUARTZ. GOLD ON THE SURFACE OF THE QUARTZ WAS YELLOW BUT WAS GRAY ELECTRUM INTERGROWN WITH QUARTZ UNDER THE SURFACE.
Comment (Deposit): GOLD WAS DISCOVERED IN 1930 ON THE SCOSSA VEIN, THE MIDDLE OF 3 PARALLEL QUARTZ VEINS 1 TO 6 FT. WIDE AND TRENDING NORTHEAST. IT IS DEVELOPED BY A 400-FT. SHAFT AND 1,000 FT OF LATERAL WORKINGS. THE NORTH STAR MINE (ALONG WITH THE HAWKEYE MINE) WERE THE MOST CONTINUALLY ACTIVE MINES IN THE DISTRICT DURING THE PERIOD 1930-1939. AT THE GAYER LEASE ON THE VEIN WEST OF THE SCOSSA VEIN AND TRAVERSING THE NORTH STAR NO. 2 CLAIM, A SHAFT WAS SUNK. THE KIMBER LEASE IS ON A BLOCK OF GROUND ON THE NORTH STAR CLAIM ABOUT 500 FT. NW OF THE SCOSSA DISCOVERY WHERE AN INCLINED SHAFT 45 FT. DEEP FOLLOWS A VEINLET A FEW INCHES WIDE. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
