MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments
Comment (Deposit): AU MINERALIZATION OCCURS IN TWO DIFFERENT ZONES AT GENESIS, THE MAIN ZONE AND THE WEST ZONE. THE MAIN ORE ZONE IS PROXIMAL TO THE INTERSECTION OF THE GEN AND K FAULTS WITHIN THE POPOVICH FORMATION. THE WEST ZONE IS STRATIGRAPHICALLY CONTROLLED BY CALCAREOUS SILTSTONE, MUDSTONE, AND ARGILLITE OF THE RODEO CREEK UNIT. DEPOSIT FORM, STRIKE, AND DIP GIVEN ABOVE ARE FOR THE WEST ZONE.
Comment (Commodity): AU IS FOUND WITHIN THE LATTICES OF MONTMORILLONITE AND KAOLINITE CLAYS THAT PRINCIPALLY OCCUR ALONG THE FRACTURES AND JOINTS IN RELATIVELY UNALTERED LIMESTONE.
Comment (Reserve-Resource): LINE 2: PROVEN AND PROBABLE RESERVES.
Comment (Reserve-Resource): LINES 1, 2: MEASURED, INDICATED AND INFERRED GEOLOGIC RESOURCES. 1989 FIGURES REPRESENT MEASURED, INDICATED, AND INFERRED ESTIMATES AS OF 12/27/89 USING A CUTOFF OF 0.01 OPT AU FOR BOTH OXIDE AND REFRACTORY ORES.
Comment (Development): IN 1984, GEOLOGISTS OF CARLIN GOLD MINING COMPANY (PREDECESSOR TO NEWMONT GOLD COMPANY) MAPPED AND SAMPLED AN AREA NORTHEAST OF THE BLUE STAR MINE. BASED ON THE RESULTS FROM ROCK CHIP SAMPLES AND THE SIMILARITIES OF LITHOLOGIES AND STRUCTURES IN THAT AREA TO THOSE SEEN AT BLUE STAR, AN EXPLORATION DRILLING PROGRAM WAS INITIATED. THE EIGHTH HOLE OF THE PROGRAM INTERSECTED 60 FT./0.102 OPT AU. SHALLOW DRILLING IN EARLY 1985 DELINEATED THE NEAR SURFACE PORTION OF THE OREBODY. DEEP DRILLING (DEPTHS OF 400-800 FT.) COMMENCED IN EARLY 1985 AND WAS COMPLETED IN LATE 1986. BY 1986, DRILLING HAD DELINEATED 13.6 MILLION TONS/0.094 OPT AU. OPEN PIT MINING OF THE GENESIS OREBODY BEGAN IN MAY 1986.
Comment (Geology): PORPHYRITIC IGNEOUS DIKES HAVE BEEN INTRUDED IN THE VICINITY OF THE GENESIS DEPOSIT, INCLUDING ALONG THE K FAULT. ARGILLIC/SERICITIC ALTERATION OF THE DIKES IS EXTREME. THESE DIKES ARE BELIEVED TO BE RELATED TO THE 156 MA GOLDSTRIKE GRANODIORITIC STOCK, BUT DEGREE OF ALTERATION HINDERS AGE DATING.
