ABOVE STREAM. ; MAJOR.UNITS: BEDROCK IS QUARTZ-MICA SCHIST, QUARTZITE SCHIST, AND CARBONACEOUS SCHIST CUT BY QUARTZ VEINS WHICH FOLLOW CLEAVAGE. SCHISTS COMPLEXLY FOLDED. ; REG.COM: SOURCE OF GOLD THOUGHT TO BE BURRIED GRANITIC PLUTON RADIATING DIKES AND QUARTZ VEINS INTO COUNTRY ROCK SCHISTS.

Comment (Commodity): SOME OF GOLD, PARTICULARLY AT THE UPPER END OF PAYSTREAK, WAS RUSTY OR EVEN BLACK IN COLOR.

Comment (Location): USGS MF-393, LOC. 75, 76. TWELVEMILE CR. TO CONFLUENCE WITH DAVIS AND POKER CREEKS. COORDINATES GIVEN ARE FOR CABINS AT MOST HEAVILY MINED AREA NEAR HEAD. LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).

Comment (Development): HIGH GRADE GRAVELS WORKED OUT EARLY; DREDGES OPERATED 1907-09, 1908-12, 1934-37. GROUND FROZEN; IS SLUICED OFF AND MELTS NATURALLY AHEAD OF DREDGE. STREAM SHOVEL USED 1925-34. MINED ALSO BY OPEN CUT HYDRAULIC METHODS. MINED IN 1975 BY DRAGLINE AND BULLDOZER.

Comment (Deposit): GOLD IN LOWER 2 FEET OF GRAVEL, ON BEDROCK, AND IN CREVICES UP TO 3 FEET DEEP IN BEDROCK. GRAVEL COMMONLY 4-10 FEET THICK, BENEATH A THIN LAYER OF MUCK.
