The Yellow Pup Mine is a tungsten mine located in Alaska.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.
Mine Info
Satelite View
MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments
Comment (Deposit): SCHEELITE IN CALC-AMPHIBOLE LAYERS WITHIN A METAMORPHIC ROCK SEQUENCE. MINED ZONE ABOUT 2 M THICK AND CONSTITUTES A STRATABOUND ACCUMULATION OF SCHEELITE THAT IS BOUNDED ON TOP AND BOTTOM BY BARREN PELITIC ROCKS. TUNGSTEN MINERALIZATION FORMS A SERIES OF IRREGULAR LENSES ERRATICALLY DISTRIBUTED HORIZONTALLY AND VERTICALLY. AMPHIBOLITE ZONE MINED ADJACENT TO NE ARM OF GILMORE DOME STOCK, GRANITE SURROUNDS DEPOSIT AND ON THE BASIS OF MAGNETOMETER SURVEY, PROBABLY IS 600-1,000 FT. BELOW SURFACE. THE EASTERN LIMB OF DEPOSIT APPEARS TO HAVE MOST OF THE MINERALIZATION.
Comment (Geology): SCHISTS, CALC-AMPHIBOLITE, AND MARBLE ROCKS ARE BELIEVED TO BE PART OF THE CLEARY SEQUENCE THAT HAS BEEN ALTERED BY THE INTRUSION OF THE GILMORE DOME STOCK. CALC-AMPHIBOLITE IS COMPOSED OF 20-30% HORNBLENDE, 20-30% QUARTZ, AND 5-10% TREMOLITE, MUSCOVITE, EPIDOTE, CLINOZOISTITE, GARNET, PLAGIOCLASE, AND CHLORITE. IN MINE AREA, THE MINERALIZED HORIZON IS ARCHED INTO A SMALL, NORTH PLUNGING, ASSYMETRICAL, ASSYMETRICAL ANTIFORM THAT FLATTENS TO THE SOUTH, WHERE IT IS TRUNCATED TO THE SOUTH BY A HIGH ANGLE FAULT.
Comment (Development): DEPOSIT EXAMINED BY THE USBM, 1943. ORIGINALLY EXPLORED BY SURFACE PITS AND A 12 FT. TUNNEL ON VEIN. 35 TONS OF ORE FROM TUNNEL STOCKPILED. USBM TRENCHING ESTABLISHED CONTINUITY WITH COLBERT MINERALIZED ZONE TO SW. DURING THE MID AND LATE 70'S VINCENT MONZULLA SHIPPED SEVERAL TONS OF HIGH GRADE TUNGSTEN CONCENTRATES AND STOCKPILED A LARGE AMOUNT OF UNMILLED ORE.
Comment (Location): USGS MF-410, LOC. 34. DEPOSIT OCCURS AT THE 1,900 FT. ELEVATION NEAR THE HEAD OF YELLOW PUP CR., A TRIBUTARY OF YELLOW AND FISH CREEKS. LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).
