Mine Info
Satelite View
MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comment (Development): PLACER MINING FROM 1903 TO AT LEAST 1975. DREDGING BEGAN IN 1911, BUT DRIFT AND OTHER TYPES OF MINING ALSO CONTINUED.
Comment (Location): USGS MF-413, LOC. 91. TAILINGS MARKED ON LIVENGOOD (A-1). COORDINATES GIVEN FOR ABANDONED VILLAGE OF MEEHAN. LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).
Comment (Deposit): THE PRODUCTIVE AREA OF FAIRBANKS VALLEY BEGINS ABOUT 2 MILES BELOW THE SOURCE OF THE CREEK AND EXTENDS FOR ABOUT 4 MILES DOWNSTREAM. THE PRODUCTIVE GRAVEL RANGES FROM 4 TO 8 FT. IN THICKNESS, WITH AN AVERAGE OF 6 FT., AND ARE MINED TO WIDTHS OF FROM 40 TO 250 FT. DEPTH TO BEDROCK FROM 15 TO 110 OR MORE FEET. GOLD ALSO IN TOP 2-3 FT. OF BEDROCK. ON MOST CLAIMS DEPTH TO BEDROCK LESS THAN 50 FT. MINERALIZED SCHIST ALONG CREEK CARRIES SILVER AND GOLD; QUARTZ STRINGERS CARRY GOLD, BUT NO SILVER.
Comment (Geology): MAJOR.UNITS: BEDROCK MAINLY SCHIST; SOME GNEISS OCCURS IN THE LOWER PART OF THE VALLEY AND A LITTLE RUSTY GRANITIC MATERIAL IN THE UPPER PART. ; REG.COM: LODE SOURCE OF GOLD FROM SEVERAL CREEKS DRAINING RIDGE TO NORTH; NO CREEKS TO SOUTH CARRY GOLD.
