Comment (Deposit): GOLD AT BASE OF GRAVEL, ON BEDROCK, AND IN TOP OF BEDROCK. MINING IN HEADWATER 6-7 MI. (MOST IN UPPERMOST 3 MI.) OF VALLEY; GOLD REPORTED AS FAR DOWNSTREAM AS 17 MI. FROM HEAD. GROUND GENERALLY ABOUT 25-35 FT. DEEP (INCREASES DOWNSTREAM), WITH 1 TO 6 FT. OF GRAVEL OVERLAIN BY SILT AND MUCK; ALL FROZEN.

Comment (Geology): TOP HALF FOOT OF BEDROCK LARGELY WEATHERED TO CLAY. ; MAJOR.UNITS: BEDROCK IS PHYLLITE, SCHIST, AND SHALY SLATE; CLOSE TO CONTACT BETWEEN GREENSTONE AND SCHIST.
