Comments
Comment (Geology): ORE HOSTED IN FRANCISCAN COMPLEX--L. TO L. ; GEOL.DESC: MANGANESE ORE OCCURS IN TWO BEDS AVERAGING 3 TO 4 FT. IN THICKNESS, ABOUT 15 FT APART ENCLOSED IN THIN-BEDDED FRANCISCAN CHERT. ON E. SLOPE OF RIDGE AVERAGE STRIKE IS N. 55 W., DIPPING 60 TO 75 N. E. THIS TREND CONTINUES W. TO RIDGE CREST WHERE A FAULT STRIKING N 50 E AND DIPPING 55 S. E. DISPLACES BEDS SLIGHTLY. W. OF FAULT BEDS STRIKE N 20 TO 30 W AND DIP 20 TO 30 N. E. THIN GREENSTONE BODY EXPOSED WAS APPARENTLY INJECTED ALONG CONTACT OF CHERT AND SANDSTONE. N. W. OF GREENSTONE, CHERT MERGES ALONG STRIKE WITH SANDSTONE. ORE IS LARGELY PRIMARY, AS SURFACE OXIDATION FORMS BLACK OXIDE COATING 1 TO 2 INCHES THICK. PRIMARY ORE IS MOSTLY REDDISH-BROWN HAUSMANNITE, CUT BY RHODOCHROSITE VEINLETS, OR HYDROUS SILICATES. QUARTZ VEINS CARRY SOME CHALCOCITE. SECONDARY COPPER MINERALS PRESENT ARE NATIVE COPPER, CUPRITE AND MALACHITE.
