The Scheelemite is a tungsten mine located in Sierra county, New Mexico at an elevation of 7,874 feet.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments
Comment (Reserve-Resource): THE DATA IN THE QUANTITY MATRIX 1 WAS DERIVED FROM VARIOUS SOURCES OF INFORMATION: 1- U.S. BUREAU OF MINES RI 4035, 2- U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY BULL. 945-C, AND 3- PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS WITH R.H. JAHNS, STANFORD UNIVERSITY, FEB. 1982 IN ADDITION TO THE LITTLE BERYLLIUM, THE ORE IS KNOWN TO CONTAIN MOLYBDENUM, BUT THE MOLYBDENUM PERCENT IS NOT SUFFICIENTLY DOCUMENTED. Q9C4 = Q1C1.
Comment (Reserve-Resource): THE ORE IS KNOWN TO CONTAIN VERY LITTLE BERYLLIUM AND SOME MOLYBDENUM, BUT THE ASSAYS ARE NOT CLEARLY REPORTED.
Comment (Economic Factors): ACTUALLY THE PRE-PRODUCTION STRIPPING VOLUME IS 3,800 CUBIC METERS.
Comment (Geology): THE DIMENSIONS OF THE ORE BODY IN THE GEOMETRY DATA SET ARE RELATED ONLY TO THE SCHEELEMITE AREA TUNGSTEN DEPOSIT, AND DO NOT CONSIDER OTHER SMALL TUNGSTEN SHOWINGS OR THE WHOLE IRON MOUNTAIN DEPOSIT.
Comment (Production): ACTUALLY THE IRON MOUNTAIN DEPOSITS WERE DISCOVERED IN 1880, TUNGSTEN IN THE SCHEELEMITE AREA WAS NOT FOUND UNTIL 1941. NO SIGNIFICANT PRODUCTION OF TUNGSTEN WAS RECORDED FOR THE IRON MOUNTAIN MINING DISTRICT TO DATE.
Comment (Deposit): MIXED DOMAIN IN THE MILS DATA SET MEANS FEDERAL AND STATE DOMAINS. ACTUALLY BERYLLIUM WOULD NOT AFFECT THE MARKETABILITY OF THE WO3 CONCENTRATE, NEITHER AS CREDIT NOR AS PENALTY.
Comment (Geology): FORMATION NAME FOR THE SKARN ROCK MASS AND FOR THE APLITE, RHYOLITE AND GRANITE WAS LEFT BLANK BECAUSE THESE ROCK MASSES ARE NOT GEOLOGIC FORMATIONS.
