Comment (Economic Factors): PRESENTLY MINING OPERATIONS ARE PROCEEDING AT THE CARLIN, BLUE STAR, AND MAGGIE CREEK OPEN PITS, PROCESSING OPERATIONS ENTAIL A LOW GRADE HEAP LEACH OPERATION NEAR THE MAGGIE CREEK PIT AND A CYANIDE AGITATION LEACH CIRCUIT NEAR THE CARLIN PIT. THE BOOTSTRAP PIT IS PRESENTLY DEPLEATED OF ORE AND THUS INACTIVE. PLANS ARE UNDERWAY TO BRING THE GOLD QUARRY DEPOSIT INTO PRODUCTION IN 1986. THE RAIN DEPOSIT WILL BE PLACED INTO PRODUCTION AT A LATER DATE. TOTAL SURFACE AEA OF THE CARLIN EPOSITS IS 104,000 HECTARES. UNIT PRODUCTION COST SHOWN IS FOR 1983-84. Comment (Geology): AT THE CARLIN ORE BODY, GOLD MINERALIZATION HAS NOT PROVEN TO BE CLOSELY RELATED TO OTHER ASSOCIATED METALS; THOSE METALS MOST ABUNDANT WITHIN THE AREA ARE ANTIMONY, ARSENIC, BARIUM, MANGANESE, AND STRONTIUM.
Comment (Reserve-Resource): (R-RECORDS 2-7; RESERVES/RESOURCES DATA FOR ALL NEWMONTS * CARLIN TREND OPERATIONS:) * (FOR RESERVE/RESOURCES SUMMARY DATA SEE INDIVIDUAL FILES:) * 1987 ESTIMATES INCLUDE RESERVES FROM THE CARLIN, PETE, POST, GENESIS/NORTH STAR, BLUESTAR, GOLD QUARRY, MAGGIE CREEK, & RAIN DEPOSITS. NO BIBLIOGRAPHY SOURCE FOUND FOR 1987 RESERVES DATA.
Comment (Geology): THE GOLD ORE BODY AT CARLIN IS AN IRREGULAR-SHAPED STRATIFORM TABULAR MASS, AN ESTIMATED 2,000 M LONG, 800 M WIDE, AND 100 M DEEP WHERE EXPOSED IN THE MINE. THE BLUE STAR DEPOSIT IS SIMILAR TO CARLIN IN ORIGIN AND TYPE. THE MINE IS MUCH SMALLER, HOWEVER. IT IS TABULAR, 365 M LONG, 200 M DEEP AND APPROXIMATELY 90 M THICK. THE MAGGIE CREEK IS DISSIMILAR TO THE OTHERS. IT IS ESTIMATED TO BE 460 BY 120 M IN PLAN AND ABOUT 40 M IN THICKNESS. THE GOLD QUARRY DEPOSIT IS PIPELIKE IN CHARACTER, WITH ESTIMATED DIMENSIONS OF 620 BY 460 M, AND 250 M IN DEPTH.
