Comments

Comment (Economic Factors): MILL: ON-SITE,ACTIVE,7300 T/D LEACH FACILITY

Comment (Production): PLANT THROUGHPUT IS RATED AT 1,814,000 MTPY BUT ADDITIONAL WORKING SHIFTS COULD BE USED TO INCREASE THIS THROUGHPUT. OPERATIONS TYPICALLY PROCEED ON THE FOLLOWING SCHEDULE: PRIMARY CRUSHING 1-2SHIFTS/DAY, 5DAYS/WEEK SECONDARY CRUSHING, 2-3SHIFTS/DAY, 5 DAYS/WEEK AGGLOMERATION, TRUCK LOADOUT AND HEAP CONSTRUCTION LEACHING AND MERRILL- 3 SHIFTS/DAY, 7 DAYS/WEEK CROWE PRECIPITATION PLANT SILVER REFINERY 1 SHIFT/DAY 5 DAYS/WEEK

Comment (Geology): MINERALIZATION OCCURS AS FINELY DIVIDED SILVER WITH MINOR AMOUNTS OF GOLD. OVER 22 DIFFERENT SILVER MINERALS HAVE BEEN IDENFIFIED BY OCCIDENTAL GEOLOGISTS. MUCH OF THE SILVER IS ENCAPSULATED IN SILICA. FEW CLAYS ARE PRESENT AND VERY LITTLE MERCURY EXISTS.

Comment (Reserve-Resource): 1995 FORM 40-F, P. 15. 1995: ON 8/27/96, PHONED BILL HOFER AT MINE: MINE HAS LESS THAN 2 YEARS LEFT. THE "DEEP DIABLO ZONE" IS POTENTIAL UG MINE, BUT ECONOMICS ARE NOT GOOD AND CANDELARIA METALLURGY IS NOT GOOD. FEB. 1997: PHONED GENERAL MANAGER AT MINE, JEFF BUTWELL, WHO SAID THERE WERE A FEW MILLION TONS UNDERGROUND THAT THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO DEVELOP AND MINE UNDERGROUND AT $8/OZ. 4/97: FROM 1996 AR, MINE SCHEDULED TO BE CLOSED MAY 1997. RECOVERY OF METAL FROM LEACH PAD NO. 2 WILL CONTINUE FOR SEVERAL YEARS AT GREATLY REDUCED OVERALL OPERATING COSTS. INDICATED RESOURCES INCLUDE 9,777,000 MT OF "DRILL INDICATED" RESOURCES, AVERAGING 0.15G/MT AU, AND 144.44G/MT AG; THESE INCLUDE "DRILL INDICATED RESOURCES," "UNMINED (GREEN NICK DEPOSIT)," AND TWO LOW-GRADE STOCKPILES. FEB. 1997: RESOURCES ARE REMAINING RESERVES AS OF 12/31/96 (1,800,000 ST) + "A FEW MILLION TONS UNGERGROUND" (FROM THE GEN. MGR.) = 1.8 + 3 = 4.8MST = 4.4MMT. GRADES REPORTED ARE THE GRADES OF THE 1.8MST RESERVES: AG-52.87 G/ST; AU-0.2 G/ST. SEE THE "ANNUAL STATUS AND PRODUCTION REPORT" PREPARED BY CANDELARIA FOR THE NEVADA DIV. OF MINERALS, JAN. 15, 1997. THIS INFORMATION SEEMS TO DIVERGE QUITE A BIT FROM THE KINROSS 1996 ANNUAL REPORT:

Comment (Production): PRODUCTION: INITIAL; AUG.,1980- JUNE,1982, BY OCCIDENTAL; LAST; AUG.,1983,ONGOING BY NERCO; PAST; 8389 KG AG 1980, 52100 KG AG & 280 KG AU 1981; ANNUAL; APPROXIMATELY 53000 KG AG & 280 KG AU APRIL THROUGH SEPTEMBER.

Comment (Environmental Factors): HEAP NEUTRALIZATION BY RINSING BECAUSE PRECIPITATION IS GREATER THAN EVAPORATION. DO NOT EXPECT METEORIC WATER TO PASS THROUGH PADS AFTER CLOSURE.

Comment (Geology): A DEEPER ORE BODY OF MASSIVE SULFIDES HAS BEEN TENTATIVELY IDENTIFIED. THE ORE BODIES OCCUR IN AN EAST TRENDING VEIN SYSTEM THAT GENERALLY PARALLELS THE BEDDING IN THE SHALE OF THE CANDEL- ARIA. THE ORE BODY IS ELONGATE IN SHAPE, AND IS CONFINED TO THE CHERTY FELSITE AND ARGILLITE OF THE LOWER PART OF THE CANDELARIA FM. GENERAL SIZE OF ORE BODY: MEDIUM
