The P. W. Gillibrand Soledad Plant is a sand and gravel, construction mine located in Los Angeles county, California at an elevation of 1,804 feet.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments
Comment (Reserve-Resource): M1=SAND AND GRAVEL ONLY. M2=ILMENITE RESERVES ONLY. M3=MAGNETITE RESERVES ONLY. M4=APATITE RESERVES ONLY.
Comment (Reserve-Resource): THE PRESENT OPERATIONAL PLANT RECOVERS 85 PERCENT OF THE HEAVY MINERALS CONTAINED IN THE FEED. TESTS INDICATE THAT THE CONCENTRATES CONTAIN 33% ILMENITE WITH 50% TIO2 CONTENT 20% MAGNETITE, 27% APATITE AND 4.5% ZIRCON. THERE ARE 484 MINING CLAIMS ON WHICH GILLIBRAND ESTIMATES CONTAIN PROVEN RESERVES OF ILMENITE IN EXCESS OF 100 MILLION METRIC TONS. RESERVE NUMBERS THEREFORE ARE SHOWN FOR ILMENITE NOT FOR SAND AND GRAVEL. THE PERCENTAGES SHOWN ARE FOR AVERAGE GRADE IN THE SAND AND GRAVEL AND THE COUNTRY ROCK COMPOSED OF VARIOUS TYPES OF ANORTHOSITE. THE READER CAN MAKE HIS/HER OWN ESTIMATE OF HOW MUCH INDUSTRIAL ROCK IS AVAILABLE IN APPROXIMATELY 20 SECTIONS OF LAND WITHIN THE SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS.
Comment (Geology): THE SOLEDAD PLANT AND MINE OPERATE UNDER THE OPENSHOP CONCEPT. PEOPLE ARE MOVED FROM ONE SITE TO THE OTHER AS NEEDED.
Comment (Economic Factors): EXPLORATION COSTS ARE ABSORBED IN DAILY PLANT AND MINE OPERATING COSTS, AND ARE THUS UNKNOWN.
Comment (Production): NOTE THAT AS DESCRIBED HERE, RECOVERY OF ILMENITE, MAGNETITE AND APATITE WOULD BE 100%. THIS WAS DONE BECAUSE THE AUTHOR IS NOT SURE OF THE FINAL TREATMENT/RECOVERY PROCESSES. USERS SHOULD INCREASE THE MINING RATHER BY 20%. THIS WILL ALLOW FOR A RECOVERY RATE OF THESE MINERALS OF 80%; THIS WILL ALLOW THE OPERATION TO PRODUCE ITS PRODUCTS AT THE PROPOSED RATE SHOWN HERE.
