The Bald Mountain Thorium-Rare Earth Deposit is a titanium, thorium, and ree mine located in Sheridan county, Wyoming at an elevation of 8,799 feet.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments
Comment (Reserve-Resource): THE RESERVES AND GRADES IN Q-MATRIX 1 COL 1 WERE USED FOR THIS EVALUATION. THE RESERVES AND GRADES SHOWN IN COL 2 ARE A HIGH GRADE ZONE WITHIN THE RESERVES OF COL 1. THE RARE EARTH OXIDE GRADE WAS CALCULATED FROM DATA PROVIDED IN U.S. BUMINES RI-5917, PP. 2-3. THE SAMPLES USED TO DERIVE THESE DATA CONTAIN A DISPROPORTIONATE AMOUNT OF THE HIGH GRADE STRATUM. CONSEQUENTLY, THE RARE EARTH GRADE IS SOMEWHAT ABOVE AVERAGE GRADE. THIS GRADE WAS NOT USED TO CALCULATE CONCENTRATE OUTPUT OR OTHER DATA OF THE MATERIALS BALANCE.
Comment (Economic Factors): THE PIT SURFACE AREA INCLUDES THE MAJOR EXCAVATION ALONG THE SOUTH SLOPE OF ROOSTER KNOB AND A SMALL PIT LOCATED 4 KM TO THE SOUTHEAST. SEE LOCATION MAP OF REPORT. PIT DIMENSIONS WERE ESTIMATED FROM THE LIMITS OF THE CONGLOMERATE(OREBODY) AND DRILL HOLE LOCATIONS SHOWN IN RME-3128, P. 40. ACTUAL SURFACE DIMENSIONS ARE APT TO BE SMALLER. PIT DEPTH WILL AVERAGE 6.7 METERS AND ALL MATERIAL WILL BE TAKEN AS ORE; THE ORE GRADES INCLUDE DILUTION BY LEAN ORE AND OVERBURDEN. BECAUSE OF THE SHALLOW DEPTH OF THE PIT, ONLY ONE BENCH WILL BE REQUIRED, AND A PIT WALL OF 90 DEGREES WILL PROBABLY BE MAINTAINED.
Comment (Reserve-Resource): UNLIKELY TO BE WORKED BECAUSE OF LOW GRADE
Comment (Reserve-Resource): REO (RARE EARTH OXIDE)
Comment (Deposit): from deleted record 560030161 = 10229770: LOCATED IN THE BASAL CONGLOMERATE OF THE DEADWOOD FM OF MIDDLE CAMBRIAN AGE. THICKNESS VARIES BETWEEN 2.5 TO 10 FT. MICROSCOPIC ANALYSIS: ILMENITE 38.3%, MONAZITE 8.7%, MAGNETITE 4.0%, ZIRCON 2%, IMPURITIES 48.8%. AVG THO2= 8.8%. AVG GOLD 0.003 OZ PER TON.
