Bond Creek

The Bond Creek is a molybdenum and copper mine located in Alaska at an elevation of 6,699 feet.

About the MRDS Data:

All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Workings): Surface workings.

Comment (Geology): Central Altered Zone (about 600 x 2,000 meters) contains abundant chlorite, minor biotite, and potassium feldspar, and spotty sericite. Outer Zone (2,000 x 3,000 meters) contains chlorite, epidote, and anhydrite.

Comment (Deposit): Model name = porphyry, vein, stockwork.

Comment (Geology): The prospect is in a large altered zone along the margin of the Nabesna Pluton in an area underlain by Triassic Nikolai Greenstone; both the Nabesna granitic rocks and the Nikolai Greenstone are cut by Tertiary porphyry dikes and small stocks.

Comment (Reserve-Resource): Indicated and inferred tonnage of 500 million tonnes of ore averaging 0.30% CU and 0.02% MO (Richter, Singer, and Cox, 1975, USGS MF-655-K, Loc. 30).

Comment (Development): Bear Creek Mining Company was reported as active on the property in 1981. Prospect has been drilled to a limited extent, surface sampling done by USGS in 1974.

Comment (Location): Best Location: USGS I-789, Location 3; 4 miles east of the Orange Hill deposit. Accurate within 200 feet. LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).

Comment (Deposit): Part of Wrangell National Park and Preserve; largest porphyry copper deposit in the Nabesna 1:250,000-scale quadrangle. See also: Orange Hill.

Comment (Deposit): Discovery year: Early 1960's.

Comment (Reserve-Resource): CAPACITY INCLUDED IN ORANGE HILL 0020780015 DEMONSTRATED IN-SITU RESOURCE AS OF 12/31/78 DEMONSTRATED MINEABLE RESERVES ESTIMATED AT: 250,000,000 MT @ 0.30% CU, 0.015% MO

Comment (Commodity): Comparison of surface and subsurface data from the nearby Orange Hill deposit and information from mineral industry sources indicate that the tenor of surface samples is about half of the tenor of subsurface samples, apparently due to surface leaching.

Comment (Ownership): OWNER ADDRESS: BEAR CREEK MINING COMPANY P.O. BOX 9-DISHMAN BRANCH 7821 EAST SPRAGUE AVENUE SPOKANE, WASHINGTON 99213. PHONE: (509) 924-2600 TWX: (509) 328-8570 PGQM SERIES OBTAINED THROUGH PERSONAL COMMUNICATION BETWEEN EVALUATOR AND EXPLORATION MGR- BEAR CREEK MINING COMPANY ALL PGQM SERIES ESTABLISHED USING BEAR CREEK INFORMATION. LANDS WITHDRAWN AS WRANGELL MTS. NATIONAL PRESERVE. PROPOSED BENEFICIATION WITH ORANGE HILL DEPOSIT (0020780015)

Comment (Deposit): Pyrite, chalcopyrite, and minor molybdenite in quartz veinlets and as disseminations in granodiorite and quartz monzonite porphyry.

Comment (Exploration): Status = Inactive
