The Grogg Creek is a gold mine located in Alaska.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.
Mine Info
Satelite View
MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments
Comment (Reference): Primary Reference = Smith, 1981
Comment (Workings): Workings / Exploration = There are many indications of small scale mining, both past and recent, on Grogg Creek. All operations appear to have been limited to near-surface gravels, and operations were apparently conducted without the benefit of any drilling (D.L. Stevens, personal observations).
Comment (Deposit): Model Name = Placer Au-PGE (Cox and Singer, 1986; model 39a)
Comment (Geology): Geologic Description = Grogg Creek drains an area underlain by pelitic schists and small intrusions of intermediate composition. The creel flows over glacio-fluvial gravels, but none of the workings has exposed the deeper gravels. Gold in small concentrations occurs throughout the extent of the creek and there have been many small-scale, hand-mining operations.
Comment (Geology): Age = Probably the same age as the White Creek gravels (HE205); ie., younger than the paleochannels on lower Valdez Creek (HE194).
Comment (Exploration): Status = Inactive
