Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Geology): Age = Probably Cretaceous.

Comment (Reference): Primary Reference = Karl, 1992

Comment (Workings): Workings / Exploration = Samples of chromite- and magnetite-bearing dunite contained up to 1000 ppm Ni, 200 ppm Co, and more than 5000 ppm Cr (Karl, 1992, loc. 50a-f).

Comment (Deposit): Model Name = Alaskan PGE (Cox and Singer, 1986; model 9)

Comment (Geology): Geologic Description = The country rocks in the area of this site are serpentinized dunite and subordinate clinopyroxenite, probably of Cretaceous age (Berg, 1972 [I 684]; Berg and others, 1988). The occurrences consist of serpentinized dunite containing disseminated magnetite and chromite, and stringers of chromite. The disseminated metalliferous minerals constitute about 3 percent of the dunite. Samples of the dunite contained up to 1000 ppm Ni, 200 ppm Co, and more than 5000 ppm Cr (Karl, 1992, loc. 50a-f).
