The Anvik River is a gold mine located in Alaska.

About the MRDS Data:

All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Workings): Workings / Exploration = Prospecting probably took place along this drainage from about 1900 to 1919 (Schrader and Brooks, 1900; Martin, 1919).

Comment (Deposit): Model Name = Placer gold and platinum (Cox and Singer, 1986; model 39a)

Comment (Reference): Primary Reference = Schrader and Brooks, 1900

Comment (Geology): Age = Quaternary.

Comment (Geology): Geologic Description = Prospecting on the Anvik River occurred as early as 1900 (Schrader and Brooks, 1900; Harrington, 1918). Coarse gold, along with platinum was reported in crystalline rocks at the headwaters of the Anvik River. Gold was found on river bars, but presumably in insufficient quantities to justify mining (Harrington, 1918). There are no references to prospecting in this drainage after 1919.

Comment (Deposit): Other Comments = the location of this prospect is uncertain; it may be in the Holy Cross quadrangle.

Comment (Exploration): Status = Inactive
